My boyfriend does not understand and it is hard to hide a new bag from him. He knows what I own  and says that a bag does only one thing: hold your stuff so why does it matter what bag it is? That comment always gets me steamed:evil:

My parents don't understand either they think I am just wasting money.

Ask him why he likes cars that much? a car is "only something that takes you from one place to another" looool compare a Corolla to the M5 BMW and he will get deeply offended!! hehehehe that is what i did!! and now he doesnt ask me about bags or shoes anymore ;)

My friends all buy fakes so I really have no idea what they think and I don't really care. I don't judge them or look down on them for buying fakes cause I know they can't spend $100 for a real one (or bring themself to do that).

My BF encourages me and actually bought me my COACH bags and my first kate spade. He's getting a bit snappy lately though as I've been on a buying rampage (which = $ flying away). I promised to be good but with Christmas sales, you never know.

do you find that some people lable you as "shallow" because of your love of bags?

The only time I've ever been labeled shallow was on a message board where I post mostly fashion. I have a thing for handbags, but I actually love other things (like art) much more. People who know me in real life know that I'm far from shallow. Handbags are just for fun...expensive fun.

most people critisize me for even BEING on a forum like this! they see it as a shallow obssession :(
who are they to judge us? i love other things as well .. i have a great family, i am doing my masters degree, i have a job i adore, i read, i write freelance articles for magazines, i have pc programming kowledge, i love talking about politics, history, art ... i love to learn about other cultures ... etc ...
does having one interest that some people consider "shallow" automatically make you a shallow person?

Nope, it makes us human. Beautiful things (handbags, cars, watches, whatever) just help to make life a little sweeter.

that doesn't work for me, my boyfriend believes that that's all a car needs to do! he spends some money on stuff for his hobbies, though (even though it's not really 'luxury' stuff), and when i try to tell him that this is my hobby, he says it's not a hobby...honestly, except for this, we get along ridiculously well.

 Try this...

Look at him with an embarrassed expression on your face and say, "Okay...I've never told anyone this before, so here it goes...Beautiful handbags make me feel sexually uninhibited. I don't know why...they just do."

Report back.

lol that's just crazy enough to work

I haven't had that problem. Most of my friends have no idea how much the purses cost, they know they are expensive, but have no idea at all and the ones that do know is usually becasue they have them too. I wouldn't tell anyone how much I paid! I have told a person (that I had just met) when they asked that i didn't know, it was a gift. (which wasn't true, but geez, come on)

Besides, we all have those things that we spend money on irrationally weather it be purses, hobbies, crafts or entertainment.
