Pear or emerald cut diamond engagement ring?

I would go with the emerald cut. It is so beautiful, and in 3 cts it really does the cut justice.

One thing to keep in mind about pears is that they are prone to a bow-tie effect (a dark mark that looks like a bow tie across the top).

If you want a square cut that is more "sparkly", you could look at cushions or radiant cuts.

Wow.. I have owned my pear for years and I never knew that!!! I just checked it out under a light.. and sure enough, I can see the bow-tie effect!

It's all about sparkle.....I have a round and an emerald cut.. When I want tons of noticeble sparkle I wear the round, when I want understated and not too showy I wear the emerald.

The bow tie effect is caused by the mounting, you can see this in pear shapes, ovals, and marquis! It is un avoidable.

Oh gosh, since I was a teen I always wanted an emerald cut...and I'm still waiting, LOL!! Emerald all the way, IMHO.

I prefer pear (but I'm biased because that's what I have ) have you looked at pricescope? They have a thread there showing member's rings and there are quite a few emerald that are ... but I still like pears

Emerald if you prefer the classic look. However if you want the diamond to really shine, go for pear.

between pear and emerald i definitely vote emerald. my fave is cushion but that wasn't one of the choices.
i could never warm up to the pear, at least not for a ring, it might look ok as a pendant or in a necklace or earrings... but on rings i really don't like it, for some weird reason it makes me think of the 80s.
