my friend and I tried on a pear shape diamond with channel band when we were ring shopping (she wanted to go and get an idea of what she wants).
it was a .85, and boy it was HUGE! like it's the biggest .85 we have ever seen! It looked really nice and classic, and dainty! it doesn't look dated at all. I agree with PPs that the shape is really personal preference (rounds don't do anything for me!) so if you really love it, i say go for it!

I LOVE pear shape!! I actually tried it on by accident in tiffanys. I wanted to try on an oval solitaire and the sa grabbed the pear instead. It was love at first sight!! I had been looking at ovals for years, and that one experience with the pear cut changed my mind. By bf bought me a 2.02 pear, d, si2 in nycs diamond district a few weeks later. We had it set in a super low three prong basket setting with a super thin band (white gold).

.........Now i just have to get it ;)

pear shaped diamonds are beautiful. although for engagement ring, i'd still pick the classic round one. to me, it's more about personal preference, not much impact from what's in or not.

I think a pear is beautiful also and they really show their size best, 1 carat in a pear looks the biggest imho. My sister and sis-in-law both have pears and my mom has a marquise. My grandmother on one side has an emerald cut and my other one had a huge pear that my mom now has. So I went for a round since that was novel to me as no one in my family had one. I'm married 12 years and in all that time I've only spotted one marquise and one pear on a girl I used to know. Everyone else either has princess or round.

I have a marquise but I honestly wanted a pear at first. I love my sunny yellow diamond now, but it wasnt my first choice when we were looking.. now I wouldnt trade it for the world. Get what you love because I get compliments on it ALLL the time!

i also agree, pears are really elegant. and with two side baguettes timeless.

does anyone know if there is a risk to put 3 prongs on your pear, instead of 5? i think 3 prongs look better but is 5 really that much more secure?

Another one here to say it's not the diamond that dates a ring necessarily, it's the setting. A pear is timeless and faces up very large in the right setting. Also, a good pear (w minimal bowtie) is hard to find and I would only trust a few vendors if shopping online, these are must see in person otherwise.

It really depends on how it looks and feels on your hand. But personally the scene from Sex and City (I'm sure you ladies know what I'm talking about) has made too much impression on me :)

^^ a beauty!

I love pear shaped diamonds! I actually have been looking at one for an upgrade down the line. I love my cushion engagement ring but a pear is next on the list and the DH agrees! ;)
