Paying for an Engagement Ring

Its tough, we all want the perfect ring, but in the end the perfect man and marriage for each of us is more important. I am in a similiar situation I am 5 yrs senior to my bf, so I make oodles more. His best friend just got engaged this weekend, and it was a little heart breaking for me, since they've been dating way less then us. And we are only being held back by finances.

He 'cant afford much, so i try to show him bands that I think are just fine as rings. I told him, I'd rather have a pretty enternity band from Cartier or Tiffany, for 3 or 4k, then trying to buy a cheap big stone. But his response was "thats not an engagement ring" so he has pride too. Thats the problem. His pride is just as important to him as not going into major debt.

Its tough, since I coudl easily buy a 15K ring. But would it seem like a ring from him, if its paid by you?

I was engaged before, and I ended up paying for the entire ring. What fun, and the ex even tried to ask for the ring back when we broke it off. The nerve!

So in the end, believe me a ring that is simple and understated, that is purchased from the heart by him, will mean much more to you in the future, then something blingy you both paid for.

You could always test him by saying that you dont want any ring!!! I have a few friends who didnt get er, including my sister. One friend didnt like what an er represented & her dh was happy to oblige, and my sister just didnt want one although her dh could well afford one.
