may I ask, is the nautilus your first choice? And is this gold nautilus with diamond bezel Your top choice among nautilus models ?

I have an older PP gold watch with diamonds. I find the combo a bit too much bling for everyday for my lifestyle. And, it’s not a very versatile watch.

IMO only the original beauty of the nautilus (or for that matter the AP royal oak) was the sporty quality of the Gerald genta design. So, I can see a gold nautilus without diamonds for everyday. A numerical date, iMO only, is also more sporty. Perhaps part of the issue for me is that the nautilus design is more refined than a standard gold tool Watch, so there is a bit of a disconnect between casual everyday and elegance. When I think of an ideal nautilus for everyday, I think of the watches of @jenayb. Perhaps she will chime in with her opinion

With respect to PP, it is my understanding that PP places conditions upon purchase of its nautilus or aquanaut models )requiring one to be a client of record who already owns a certain number or type of pp watch (or at least this was how it was explained to me at the pp salon at Tiffany’s ). I believe it may be easier to acquire those models with diamonds, though I am not entirely sure.

It is however a beautiful watch if it is one of a wider rotation. JMO and YMMV :) I’m looking forward to hearing about your decision process. :) it is a lovely thing to ponder

Yes, the gold nautilus is my first choice. I was initially going to go for a Rolex gold date just 31 mm MOP dial with diamonds but when I saw it in person, it didn’t wow me. I’m not sure why. I am drawn to slightly more square/less round watches that are more jewelry pieces. I currently wear a Cartier gold panthere diamond bezel small daily. I have to wear long sleeve shirts at work so any watch I wear would be hidden under my sleeves. Of all the authorized dealers I’ve spoken to, none of them mentioned needing prior purchase history but I also do not reside in a fashion forward city so it may be slightly easier here. I am drawn to sparkles so I try to get everything with diamonds. To me, more is more 😂.

I considered an AP watch but I feel that it is a little too industrial for me as the polygonal shape reminds me of a large bolt. They make beautiful watches but I prefer something a little more feminine. I’m not sure what other watches I should consider but I know I’d like something automatic as my panthere is quartz. I am not a huge watch collector so I’d say I have maybe 2-3 watches left in my lifetime so I’d like something special.

This PP Nautilus Ladies 7118 is my dream watch too! Unfortunately, based on my personal experience I seconded what @880 mentioned - it’s super difficult to land this if there’s no purchase history of other PP watch in one’s collection (even if it’s ladies watch and with diamonds bezel). Basically it’s super impossible to land Nautilus (even for men and ladies model) as your 1st watch. I’ve tried 2 ADs in my city to “test the water” - 1 told me frankly with such statement whilst the other 1 never wanted to discuss at all (despite my initial email appointment request) and pushed the other PP ladies model for e.g. Annual Calendar or Twenty4.

I was the opposite with you that I settled with AP instead and so far they’ve been more transparent and treated me better with their allocations. You can gauge the difficulty in landing certain watches based on their secondary market pricing and this is the hard truth for some watch collectors out there however, if you ever land this one despite my above comments - then good for you!

At my AD I was “allowed” to try on but that’s it 😂. This stainless steel reference has a 10 year waiting list. Perhaps easier to obtain PM model with diamonds in North American market, as @ehy210 ’s experience suggests. As to its function as an everyday watch, perhaps @chiaoapple will comment.

I was not even told about waitlist but more of plainly impossible to land it as a new customer with no purchase history of other PP watches

The AD who was very frank with me still allowed me to try both of their exhibition pieces in RG and SS, whilst the other AD never wanted to show at all.

I guess i was too late into the watch game when i was ready financially and could afford their watches. If only i was able to start much much earlier when they were all readily available at these ADs.

Agree with this. To be frank, when DH and I met with the PP specialist, we were told in no uncertain terms that to be eligible for any nautilus or aquanaut, you had to be a client of record who has purchased x (hard) and/or y(soft) PP models first. (Hard/soft were terms of art used by the specialist) Both x and y were significant numbers, and the specialist had examples of both categories on her iPad.

So, it is not simply a matter of waitlisting for what you love. Frankly, I currently prefer wearing jewelry on both wrists, and DH prefers Alange & Soehne to PP, so the PP requirements are a non issue. But, they are in place to discourage resellers. And clearly PP (and the other top companies) award client boutique loyalty. Alange & Soehne also will not wait list a prospective client for certain models unless that client is already in good standing, but IMO only, PP preaching exclusivity with an annual production of 70K watches (all models) per year is a bit much.

I do very much admire the nautilus design, but one has to be offered one first. And prespend for one of these makes Hermes prespend seem very minimal.
