Laila

Have you had any luck having them send you pictures for items since you spoke with them by phone? Via email the response is short, much like their descriptions.

Based on your last note, I am trying to do the math in my head of what the percentage is with Buyer's Premium, VAT and any US customs charges for anything over $200. I confess I am getting myself totally confused - what do you think, expect a surcharge of 30-40% and then shipping via FEDEX, depending on the item $150 plus $40 Fedex fee for going through customs?

I have never watched a live auction on ebay before, I am kind of excited to get up even with the time change.... will try to do so.... what about you?

hey doloresmia! see you saturday (when this is all over!)
ok i figured this example:
hammer price: 1000 euros
premium: 230 euros
VAT: 45-55 euros (then you'll get some of that refunded when it leaves the EU for USA)
shipping (depends on the item, for a bag you can ask to be put in touch with the shipper they recommend, or just guess a max of 120 euros???)
So, before VAT refund, and before U.S. Customs (which is impossible to calculate isn't it? Or is it 10%??) that would be 1400 euros +
I'd use an exchange rate of $1.30 so that item that you win at 1000 euros hammer price ends up costing you in the neighborhood of $1820. Now if you're getting scarves, lighter weight items, you'd save considerably on shipping I assume. And of course, multiple items ship together...

I forgot to add in my newsy post two up from here that they told me they charge 0% for credit cards except American Express 2.5%. (And again, all the info I got was within the understanding that I cannot bid on eBay due to less than 60 feedback.)

Laila - thanks for the clear math on this.

i will let you know if i get any answers to the questions on various bags, including whether there was a reserve price. i would be willing to take the risk on condition if the prices stay low on some items even with the estimate of 40% fees added on, but that might be too much wishful thinking. very curious to see how this auction does in this economy.

i cannot wait until Saturday....

as i understand their rules (on listings), if there is a reserve price, it can't be higher than the lowest estimate price. so that gives you an idea...

I haven't gotten any yet, and thus far they have only replied to one email.
same here, as of this a.m.
i responded with repeated request for photos and production date
costa, well you wouldn't get VAT back, but if you can get to Paris this Friday you'd save shipping. So on a 1000 euro item, you'd pay 230 euros premium and 45 euros VAT, that's 1275 euros = 27.5% over hammer price for you spending euros.

I received replies to the emails I sent on items I was interested in. Not a lot more detail than appears on the ebay listing unfortunately.

I am in Paris - so glad you posted this! thanks.

Haute Couturess, are you going to drop by the viewing????!!!!! if you do, would you please let us know what your sense is of condition/quality? there are some bags i am looking at, but so hard to tell what the condition is from the pictures and the cryptic emails. how wonderful if you go to the auction! i love IRL auctions!
