Really not worth having an argument about this. I wanted my peers to know about the "S" mark so they do not get taken in by a seller who does not tell them it is from an Hermes sale.

All I can say is that this year 2012, every single items that my friends and I looked at, tried on and or bought has a "S" on it and we bought scarves, shawls, hats, twillys, RTW, gloves, men's shirts, shoes, sweaters, and towels. Nothing from June 2011 which I bought had any mark nor did the scarves and slg from 2010 and 2009---I can only speak from my experience.

I appreciate your effort to educate other members. I just think it's important not to use terms like "NEVER" or "NOT" or state something as absolute when the opinion is based on limited experience. Maybe say instead "this year all my sale items had the S mark, whereas my previous sale purchases were not marked. Does anybody know what the logic behind the marking is?"

the logic with the s-stamp ?!
most likely that customers do not exchange the items in the store for one regular priced item

No, the logic with why some items are stamped, others aren't. I think it has to do with the visibility of the stamp (i.e whether the stamp is too visible) and how easy it is to stamp an item. Perigord could probably offer some advice, she's been to a sale or two.

This is simply not true. Some items have the sale mark, others don't. I've bought things from both the Paris 2009 and 2010 winter sales and most had the S.

I agree all the items that I have ever bought in the sale over the last few years in Europe have an S stamp, even glass tumblers bought from the Milan sale have an S etched into the glass. Just sayin :smile1:

That is correct as Hermes does exchange items without the receipt in some stores they would want to ensure that sale items are not exchanged for full priced ones or a credit note.

Thanks but I think I shall just go back to reading and stop saying anything because for one reason or another some people are extremely, is assertive a bad word? And I would definitely not say that my "opinion is based on limited experience."

And if I have to preface every sentence with in my humble opinion posting will become a bit too arduous for me. So, in my humble opinion, when you are HERMES, and even though LVMH has just increased their amount of held shares again, no logic is really necessary. HERMES can do whatever it wants to it would seem and their sales are still through the rooftops!

Perigord is happy to step in and offer a few thoughts. Thanks so much, Polaremil!

I have been to every January Paris sale (and many June sales) for at over a dozen years. Including the most recent one.

For all these years, items have been marked in some area with a discreet stamp. Shoes, clothes, shawls and scarves, hats, gloves, horn jewelry, small leathers--99% of everything I have brought back has been marked, year after year. I have only rarely seen an item where I could not find a mark. There were a few cadenas where I was unable to see any mark. You could be correct, Polaremil--perhaps it was difficult to stamp this particular item. Or perhaps the mark was so discreetly places that it escaped my aging eyes. Or perhaps a batch of items was missed inadvertently by those placing the mark.

The marks identify the sale item and prohibit exchange at any Hermes boutique. Reasonable.
