I live in Ireland (hint is in the username) and crime has been on the serious up in recent years. I've heard of women being held at syringe-point and their bags ripped from their shoulders! I am so paranoid about my bag being stolen.

Does anyone else feel this way?! And secondly, have you ever had a designer bag stolen from you? Obviously as long as nobody is hurt that's the main thing but it would still be devastating to lose your bag!

No and no, but I live in Texas and I have my concealed handgun license.

If you are nervous about someone snatching your bag, I'd suggest a cross body bag.

Good luck and stay safe cuz anything designer or otherwise is not worth a life.

Exactly. Get some pepper spray or something. But in the end it's just a bag.

I havn't had my bag stolen from me but I've had two nasty guys go through my bag and steal my prada wallet right in front of me as they were pretending to wrestle each other near my bag but were in fact rummaging though it the bast**ds!!! I have also had a pick pocket try to put their hand into my handbag and rummage for things whilst I was on a busy escalator in the train station, luckily the idiot realized I was looking and was going to push them down the escalator - he stopped and walked up as quick as he could without taking anything- From then on I never have purchased a bag without a zip closure!. The risk of crime is always out there, I guess you just have to be smart sometimes where you take your luxury items esp if you are on your own/ late at night etc.

I was robbed @ a casino, turned out to be one of their employees. They took my money $600 and wallet, but did not take my handbag which was worth more than the $600. It was a large Gucci hobo where there is no zipper and someone can reach into it, similar like the LV noe's. It is because of this I do not keep noe's for myself, but resell them when I find them in the ts.

It took three hours for the casino to do an investigation (they were trying to get my money back to no avail ended up going to court), but they fired the employee and the judge made him give me my money back double. I am sorry, you feel fear, but I agree with person who suggested a crossbody to you. As a mom, I feel safer with the crossbody.

I was actually robbed in Central Park while walking down one of the more secluded paths but thankfully they just took my money and not my speedy.

But, if someone threatens you no matter what style or designer you are carry please let them have the handbag. It is not worth risking your life. These are just things.

When my sis was in med residency she had a friend from medical school who was walking across the street with a handful of groceries and realized she dropped her designer bag. When she realized what had happened a man was picking it up and walking away with it, I believe it was a Gucci. The girl said, "Bye, Mr. Gucci," and proceeded to walk home. I want to say this happened in Wash., DC. Maybe she wasn't too worried because she knew her parents would buy another one or her once she was done her fellowship she would purchase one for herself.

I think we live in a society where crime is rampant and being cautious is important. Also if I were threatened, I would not fight back because who knows what the crazy person would do... I have heard too many stories of people reaching for their own weapon or pepper spray and getting shot or stabbed. You can take my bag and walk away. I'd be sad for a few hours but it's just a bag, and it is not worth taking any risk for it.

No I don't feel that way and have to say that if I did, I don't think I would carry a recognisable bag. Might it be prudent to carry something else if it is bothering you that much? I've never had a bag stolen but have had a purse taken out of a bag - just the once.

I got my wallet stolen/ robbed from my LV bag in Toronto DT area~! I felt my bag was dragged down real hard when I just walked out of a fast food restaurant. And when I examined my bag, my wallet was gone, some pauper approached me and my friend in the fast food restaurant and grabbed the food we're planning to throw in the garbage bin. I suspect they are the same group of people, horrible experience, especially because I work around that area, never feel as safe as before.

There are certain things I can carry in less populous areas (hello, Monogram!) that I don't feel comfortable carrying in the city. This is part of the reason why I love Epi...hopefully thieves haven't started to target this print as much. And my rule is that all my bags have to have a zipper! A friend just returned from Paris and told me that pickpockets are common in museums & other crowded areas but a crossbody zipped purse is the best option. Of course I had to ask which purse is best in the Louvre. :)

In the US we also have other ways of defending ourselves - I took action with this after I read an article about people who purchased items at the Galleria mall in Houston (LV) and were followed up to 30 miles by thieves who busted into their car after they were eating at a restaurant. I couldn't help but think - what if these people ended up at my home?

I urge everyone to pay attention to their surroundings and the people in those surroundings. If something feels wrong, treat it as such. Many people get into trouble because they don't want to be "impolite". I don't want that to be anyone here!

Yes, people get robbed often. I had a Fossil wallet stolen out of a Fossil purse before I started carrying designer bags. - Most pick pockets are probably not going to know what designer you are carrying, they just want the money, cards & ID in your wallet. - Most women walk around with their engagement rings all the time. - Point is, be cautious of your surroundings, but don't be too paranoid to live & enjoy your things.

I think you have to be very careful when traveling overseas I think it's good to not carry very expensive items because you are more apt to become a target to rob. It's seems this has become more of a problem with crime over the last few years designer bags etc..

Chanel on Newbury Street Boston was robbed during broad daylight several years ago and I was shocked because I lived in a nice safe area of the city at the time. The same thing happened with the Louis Vuitton store a few years ago.
