You two are absolutely cracking me up. I totally know the addiction you're falling quickly into. Haha. I'm a bit shocked when I realize I have 175 gel polishes - eek. But thankfully I didn't have that many RNP before I started :)

I will give you another thing to consider that I found on here: GLITTER! My mom loves it and I was more of a cream polish girl, so I found a great site that sells loose glitter, which is gorgeous and cheap! This can get "scrubbed" into your tacky layer of gel or you can make a glitter paste out of it with top coat - the uses are endless. http://shop.artsyfartsycrafts.com/

If that weren't enough, I'm not sure if you're into nail stamping or not, but it's also a great add to manis - and another addiction I have.

Yes, it can become quite the addiction. I'm up to 270 gel polishes, 72 rnp and 32 glitters/pigments. And let's not even mention the stamps. I have a wish list but I really should buy no more because, by my calculations, I have enough to last the rest of my life...

Haha! You make me so happy Nancy :) At least I know I'm not alone. I still feel like I have "gaps" in my collection in teals/turquoise and different pinks and reds. Plus all the new colors. But other people look at me like I'm crazy. Ha.

Hahaha, unfortunately glitter on my nails for 2 weeks would be a bit out of place in my office!

And luckily I never took to stamping (tried it and sold my plates).

Before you do all that, you might want to take a look at a couple of products that might make this easier – Gellit and Megamix. Both of these products claim to be able to make a gel polish out of a regular rnp. Megamix claims much more, that you can mix any pigment/glitter/rnp to create a gel polish, but it is currently only available in the UK (I was able to get some in my travels). I've just started to use it, and it works great. Megamix has been getting stellar reviews on SG. I have not tried Gellit.

Here's some info on them:

Wow, that's very interesting! I will look into these before going buck-wild LOL Thank you!!

I wasn't sure if that Amazon link was legit, or not, since it seems considerably cheaper ($30) than other places :S

Just an FYI, OPI has lowered the price on the lamp to $199 directly from them. They've also done offers in the past few months where they're doing lower pricing as well as bundling for the same price of $199. Personally, I haven't had an issue with Amazon, but I can understand the hesitation. I know I've had to do returns on things via Amazon and I've never had an issue getting a refund.

Woot! I just ordered the LED lamp, base coat, top coat, and a few colours to get me started!

CAN'T WAIT!!!

Thanks for everyone's help getting started :3 Ya'll are so nice and friendly... and enabling *side eye*

For those of you who use mainly OPI , have you had about the same wear if you use a Gelish color on top of the OPI color and then the Gelish TIO ? I would use the OPI base coat first. The reason I ask is because I have just recently started using the OPI colors because I was not getting more than 7-8 days wear with Gelish base coat. I have quite a few glittery type Gelish polishes already , and would like to use some of them over the OPI colors. I have gotten longer wear with the OPI.

With gelish I barely got 4 days. I get 10 days with opi. You can use your opi base and top with gelish colors I have and the wear was till 10 days.

Come join our OPI gelcolor polish group!!! We're just getting started so invited friends!

Thanks for the reply. I will try it next manicure . I will probably still use an OPI color and just use one of my glitter ones as a top off before top coat .

Hi everyone, coming out of lurk mode to add my experience. I get really great wear with OPI base and top (14 days +) and using any of my SOG polishes in between. I would get similar wear using RCM base and top coat but with BRUTAL soak offs which I no longer have to put up with. Good luck!

Thanks for the info. I'm glad I can still use my Gelish colors, but will probably put them over pale colors of OPI. I just got about 12 days with OPI stuff and Gelsh top coat , so I can use that up too. Actually I could have gone a few more days, but my nails were getting too long and I'm leaving on a trip in a couple days, so needed to do them first .

I mix my brands all the time.

Got my OPI stuff in the mail today!!

Base coat, top coat, Don't Burst My Bubble, Taupe-less Beach, Samoan Sand, and You're Such A Budapest

Just finished my first mani; it took me about 1 hour start to finish. The gel smelled like super glue or something; I hadn't noticed that when I got my gel mani at the salon a few weeks ago!

OPI Gel Taupe-less Beach (3 coats) (before moisturizing cutes)

The colour is very similar to Essie Chinchilly, but definitely warmer and lighter (I think). It reminds me a little of Milani Bare to Wear.

I think my application was a little thick, even though I tried to make as thin coats as possible. I didn't feel any heat spikes, though. It looks like I have a little shrinkage on my ring finger - again I'm thinking due to thickness? The OPI Taupe-less wasn't that thick. I don't know how to judge a good gel formula or not, but I thought the formula was good even if it were a RNP.

The base coat on my right thumb was not fully cured after 30 seconds (based on my wiping the surface with a dry lint-free wipe), so I cured the all remaining coats at 45 seconds instead of 30 just to be on the safe side. Once I get the hang of the thick/thinness of coats, I'll go back to 30 seconds.

I did the dishes (with gloves on, of course), including scrubbing a saute pan, and the nails still look good. Nice and shiny!

Thanks to everyone for all your help over the last week :) I hope it wears well... I'm little nervous now, haha XD

Congrats on the haul! Your nails look fabulous and the color is gorgeous! I have to admit, I do thicker coats than I could but they are not "thick" by any means and I still only get full coverage with three coats no matter what brand/color, 30 seconds has cured every time (I can get a full two weeks). Make sure your hand is fanned out in that awesome curing lamp as there are special lights just for your thumbs. If your hand wasn't fanned properly it could result in an improper cure on those two digits.

Enjoy your new nail supplies!
