An absolutely STUNNING opal! I'm sure it's already been said, but make sure you put it in a secure setting, and I'd probably wear it as a pendant as opposed to a ring. Reason being they're very soft and break easily. I have an opal and diamond eternity ring that I love, and in the 10 years I've had it, 2 opals have broken. Because of the colour of the opals, I have a real job trying to get a perfect match to fit where the broken ones have been. They tried to fob me off with the nasty milky looking ones with no colour. No good, as my opals are full of colour!

Anyhow, not trying to scaremonger you. Congratulations on your beautiful purchase, and may you enjoy it for many, many years to come.:D:

I am eyeing on this ring setting. But my opal is oval shape. I think the gold around the opal will protect it from bumping elsewhere. I hope!

If strike opal against hard surface, may break.
This sounds basic.
But am a wild arm flailer. And talk with my hands.

Was given large opal ring.
Has not broken in 27 years of arm flailing.
Because of setting.

Am bad @ photographing jewelry, sorry.
See many gold proterberances, rising above/surrounding stone?
These strike surfaces, not the opal.
Which stays safe in metal nest.

Op, your chosen stone & setting are lovely.
But may allow striking opal's top.
You could be fortunate enough not to be in wild flailing club, however. :D
In which case, no worry.

Thanks for the caution. I will not wear the ring all the time and I do not have an active lifestyle. I am a very lazy person! Lol! Maybe opal really suits my personality!
