Old Lady Bags?

I understand this - yesterday I caught a glimpse of myself in a window, in my jeans and T shirt with my 'Kelly' style bag and thought it looked funny. I think the reason is I remember my mother carrying this style back in the day (1950's/60's) when women dressed up including hats, gloves and heels to go grocery shopping! My mother never owned a pair of jeans or trousers even to do housework in.

Lol! Its great that bags nowadays can b worn with so many diff outfits. U know...whenever I think that the good ole days were likely better than now I think of stuff like this.

I can't define an old lady bag to be honest...

I guess it all depends on the personal perspective. My SA at the Chanel rue Cambon store refused to show me Chanel Medallion bag and CC timeless clutch. She said these were "old lady" bags and I'm too young for them. :D I kind of agree on this.

Yes! Lol!!! I was I think at TJMaxx or somewhere the other day trying on a bag. It was the prettiest aqua mint color. Loved the color! Kind of had an LV Speedy satchel shape but diff. It had perforted sides. My husband, who rarely has an opinion, said that the bag just wasn't my style. He said he could see my mom or someone carrying it but not me! Plus, he had to add that the bag looked like a cat carrier...!

And u know what?

He was actually right!

Lol!!

Sounds like a great color, but a little misguided on the styling! I kind of like perforated, but don't own one. Never thought of cat carrier!!

I don't think there is any age limit on handbags. My mom and I often wind up with either the same bag or the same but in a different color. I think they are a timeless item. I think nothing of seeing an older woman with a fancy handbag. Actually, I may react differently to seeing a teenager carry a Chanel or LV. Then I tend to think spoiled which is a seperate judgment all its own, and I know I should not think that way, but I didn't get my first designer purse until I was able to pay for it myself.

I figure carry what you want, what doesn't break your bank account, and whatever makes you happy!:party:
Awww... That's really awesome. I wish i could be like you and your mums. My mum and I live in different country and she's not into branded bags, which I really respect though. I still love her so much. She's the best for me.

This is true! Everyone needs a bag that works for them. I think my mom constantly asking me if something makes her look old is what brought up this topic. She loves leopard print outfits and bags too. I always associate the leopard print with her. I even buy my 3 year old daughter leopard print outfits and tell her that she's dressing like grandma! She prances around and is so proud. My mom loves the attention too! Lol!
How cute is your daughter. :D You should take a photo of her and your mum wearing leopard things together. It'll be very memorable moment once she's grown up. :smile1:

I completely agree that it's all back to our personal opinion and choice. I've seen my friend, who's older than me, likes more like teen look. She is always afraid if the bag would make her looks oldish. And I also know someone who's heading to her 70s and she loves buying branded bag when she went to Europe.

Everyone have their own choice, just don't bother what people judge about as long as we are happy and content with our own choice. :smile1:

I think people are being too oversensitive over the issue of age here. Regardless of how young or old you are, its how you wear the bag that determines whether or not you pull it off, not how old you are. Of course there are such thing as "old lady bags" but with the rise of vintage bags, now old lady bags are cool again! I'm just sad that neither of my grandmothers had any special vintage bags. One was too poor to afford them (plus I don't think she would have ever given a damn about having nice bags, or about being called an old lady at that!) and the other was blind so she went for the functional, though she was a very stylish lady and likewise would not have cared about being called an old lady.
I am in my mid twenties now and carry several vintage handbags which are decades old, but thats ok because I happen to like the nanna look and am fully embracing it! I just got two fabulous vintage Pucci bags so if anything I'm a bit of a ratbag nanna ;-) having said that, when I'm in my eighties I fully intend to be like Masteryoda's mother and rock out the leopard print! I'll just have to think of a bag to go with my outfit which will be just as outrageous.
Age is just a number, it means whatever you want it to so I figure have fun with it! :-)

Also somebody earlier asked what some good vintage bag designers are. I'm from Australia so I'll always have a soft spot for vintage Oroton, particularly their rhinestone clutches. I dream of having one one day! Other good brands which don't really break the bank are Whiting and Davis, Walborg, Josef and Delil. You can get them really cheaply on ebay and etsy so I suggest other people embrace the nanna look!

Thanku!! That's a great idea!! I think my sister has taken pics but I haven't on my phone yet. She's since grown out of her winter leopard outfits but I think I have a summer outfit put back that we can do. If not, I'll find a cute one I'm sure! Maybe we can do this for mothers say coming up!
