Hi,

I have been curious about Moreau for a while and decided to try something preloved as an entry into the brand. I went for this lovely little WOC and shortly afterwards: a Vincennes, and I am hooked! The tote was an absolute steal, too, I assume it is pretty vintage but I am in awe of its quality, it is simply exquisite. I am no expert, but to me it looks saddle-stitched throughout. This one is made in France. Any Moreau historians out there who can tell me more about these bags and/or might hazard a guess as to their respective ages?
Congrats! Looking at the stitching, this piece def looks like its from between 2017-ish to 2022. The pieces made post-2022 are straight up ****. If you look at the post-2022 Moreau La Pon (its those bucket bags), they changed the stitching and everything and it looks like a machine stitched Fendi bucket bag. In 2022, when I checked another Moreau classic bag "The Chanceliere", the new ones did not come with feet and again, the stitching/edge coating everything had changed. Too bad Moreau changed after the brand's owner changed. I really wanted a La Pon (old one) but no luck even in the pre-loved market. Yesss the old ones are like you said: exquisite. Not too many old Moreau left in the pre-loved Market either. Enjoy your bag.

@bambita basically replied with what I was going to say. However, I just wanted to add that I basically noticed the same thing about the brand with what they said. At first, it really seemed like such a passion project for the guy who rebooted the brand (similar to Moynat). Then after they sold it, there was a noticeable change in the brand. The website has changed a few times since. At this point, I think I would only buy the older Moreau items when they pop up. I remember thinking to myself that everything was going to change when they introduced the St Tropez tote with the machine stitching and the fake leather.

SO TRUE re the St Tropez tote :lol::lol::lol::lol: I am laughing now but it was a moment of sad realization.

Thank you bambita and jcantu for all the insightful information, the decline in quality does seem to be a pattern and I made a similar analogy with Moynat myself. (My - again preloved - Réjane does look decently made, but there is something about the taurillon that makes me wonder if I got a post-Ramesh one after all. The edge coating is still way better than on my Baluchon, though).

What to make of all this canvasification and machine stitching … I don’t get it, weren’t the quality and the craftsmanship the most important USP’s for these brands? Obviously, it wasn’t a viable concept anymore, why else would they all want to turn into Vuitton … Anyway, I am so happy to have found this gorgeous Vincennes (and I do quite like the WOC, too, even if it pales in comparison!)

I mean, quality and craftmanship should be the most important USP but these brands are businesses in the end. And the ultimate goal of every business is to make money, even if it means cutting costs etc. Also small niche brands have to compete with big conglomerates like LVMH and Kering. The mass accepts and wants what these two big giants serve them. In some ways, Moreau tried to become Goyard. Even Moynat is now a wanna-be Goyard. Even LV tryna be like Goyard with their new Neverfulls. 😁 Luxury is mass produced marketing through influencers these days haha. Anyways yeah same: im happy that i got old Moreaus when they were stilll good. When they changed, I got a preloved vincennes vertical tote. Yours is horizontal innit. Love the stitching like you do.

Re the Rejane, yeah even I was eyeing a Rejane on Fashionphile but I cannot tell if it is pre-2021 so I stopped myself. Too bad. There are so many Moynat sellers online from Italy and I start doubting if they are even real Moynats. Some really rare Moynats are up online rn from this one seller from Italy and I wonder why she would have soooooo many different Moynats and rare ones too. I messaged one of them few months ago if one of the pyramid clutches is pre-2021 and he/she never responded. So tricky!!! Sigh!!!

So I am in Europe, and got my Réjane from a Paris seller that I have always been happy with. They weren’t able to tell me when it was manufactured, though, and as I have never handled any old Moynats for comparison, I made a conscious decision to be content with the bag either way.

As for canvas, I don’t really like it, but undeniably the totes are lightweight and practical. I own one single canvas bag, an FLP Daily Battle, and must confess that I reach for it a lot. I quite like the design; I think the quality is comparable to - maybe even slightly better than - Goyard or LV NF, and in my northern climate I wouldn’t bring the Vincennes out anyway if there was any risk of precipitation (which is most of the time 😊). And yes, it is horizontal - more comfortable when you like to sling your bags over your shoulder, I find.

I should go easy on the shopping for a bit, but I am lusting for a Valextra Iside of some kind. You are probably more of a purist than me, considering the way things seem to develop, what would you still go for in this day and age? Duclos perhaps? Lots of smaller artisan businesses to explore, too, of course.

Oooooooo Paris pre-loved shopping!!! If it is from a seller you trust then it should be good right? You can look at the edge coating and if its even, then it is prolly a real deal. What color and hardware? :)

I don't have any experience with Moynat or Moreau canvas totes. I have a Goyard St Louis tote from ages ago that I regret buying and probably should re-home it. Moreau Vincennes horizontal was something I wanted but I never got one coz there were too many Moreau bags on my wishlist at the time when I was obsessed with the brand lol.

LOL Valextra Iside. I do own one mini but sadly I have never used it coz it is too formal for my current lifestyle. I mostly use their Serie S which is discontinued now. They will surely bring it back. Tell you what. I got my Iside from Paris Lafeyette before the Valextra flagship store opened in Paris back in 2022. I did not notice that the lock was lopsided when I reached the hotel so I went back and got a fresh one. The SA was so sweet and she gave me a bag charm for free. If you do get an Iside in Paris, please make sure to check, you never know these days.

I do use a tote from Duclos. Diane, like Iside, is a too formal for me. May be, when I get older, I might get one. Currently, I am eyeing Moynats from the pre-loved market here in the US and get rid of some bags I never use in my closet. A black Rejane but it is hard to see stitches etc online. I would love to check out the Paris pre-loved for Moynats in near future.

I went on and on. Sigh!!! Bag talks are un-ending ehhehehehhehe. Have a lovely time in Europe :)

Forgot: Check out Luisaviaroma and Yoox for deals on Valextra. If I had known earlier in my bag journey about this website, I would have never paid the full prices for any Valextra bags. The last Valextra I got, I got a really good deal 40% off on Luisa. Yoox has some rare/older pieces. There is always a preloved market option too. I got a Moreau wristlet from Yoox last year for 300 something bucks and the thin edge coating is already torn. Not gonna buy new Moreau ever again like ever ever ever. That was a dumb move on my part. Imma stop. :) x

Oh, sorry for the confusion - in the sense that I actually am European, is what I meant. This is home 😊

No, the Dianes aren’t really my style either, too ladylike for me. I got the Réjane earlier this year and it is a black PM with silver HW (you can have a peek over in the Moynat thread if you want (post #8843)). Probably a Knightly one.

And thank you for the great shopping tips! Will DM you a question if that’s alright.

Does anyone have any other contacts for the Paris shop?
I had some questions and eventually made a purchase through their official WhatsApp +33 603914446 and they sent me a secure payment link, invoice through email came from [email protected], they were very responsive throughout that process, however after my purchase, I have been asking to see the details on the tax refund form before they ship the bag out (I will be visiting Europe but am not local, requested to ship to one of my hotels), but I've been ignored for 5 days now having dropped a text everyday..

Funny I went from buying pre-2021 Moreau to exploring Ramesh Nair era Moynats. I am waiting for a pre-owned Pauline to arrive (made and discontinued during Nair's tenure). I have several Moreau bags including the leather totes and am sad that the quality has declined so much. The leather is truly the best I've felt in a bag (I don't own Hermes). I believe your Rejane is Nair era btw bc of the angular metal feet. The post Nair models have rounded feet. The oldest Rejanes seem to have a zippered interior pocket. Do you find the PM size to be heavy at all?

And I also agree about the Diane! I went to the Paris store recently to check out the bags in person and I almost made an impulse buy because the salesppl were so friendly. I just wasn't completely sold on the design and the heritage leather reminded me of a vintage, vegetable tanned Dooney & Bourke bag I had. I also couldn't justify the incredibly high price tag.

Did you get this resolved? I have one of the Paris SA's number. Feel free to DM me.
