This is sort of a note/question that could go under mous or cash. I was wondering if it bothers anyone that very few c/s show up at sale and TONS of mous and twills do? I went to the BH sale yesterday and it was amazing what was marked down- I did not buy anything because there is a lot of S/S 2009 I am still after and I feel scarves marked with an "s" stamp inherently have less value unless it is a very scarce grail design. It is somewhat disconcerting to see scarves I paid full retail for marked down 40%. It is also sad to see them tossed around in a disrespectful way. I haven't been to the sale at BH for at least a year now and am not sure I will go back anytime soon- it is very claustrophobic and uncomfortable (at least for me) to shop this way as there is no way to carefully inspect purchases before they are rung up the way they have security set up now. My guess is that there has been a problem with asset loss at previous sales. The line to check out was daunting- at least 45 minutes to an hour.

So now I am questioning why c/s so rarely shows up at sales, at least here on the west coast. I know they are at the Paris sale- what about other sales, ie., Toronto, NYC? Also, I am wondering if I should just pay retail for c/s and hold off for a sale for mous or twill if I absolutely have to have those.... especially at these prices? Thoughts?

Just a guess from what I've been told, but it's probably because they make A LOT more of the regular scarves than they do the shawls. The shawls are even more of a "limited edition" than the cheaper 90cm scarves, and as we've seen on here, when they come out, some of those designs will fly off the shelves. It can be that way with some of the scarves, too, but they seem to be a lot easier to get.

It is amazing how the GM cash have become high demand- a few years ago, there were far fewer people who appreciated these, perhaps because of the price point. You are right- for desirable designs in the best cws, some of these shawls do not even make it to the floor. I would also want to carefully inspect any cashmere at a sale as we all are aware of how fragile they are and can easily be damaged just by handling them in the store.

Thanks Vildachya, Polaremil, Ammietwist figuring out how much my addiction will cost!! Have to ease DH into this !! lol :urock:

MaiTai - thanks for the spy pix.....gives a good idea of whats coming up - I can already envision your H it up pix with these new gm's!!!

ITA, a shawl definitely needs to be inspected because you never know how it's been handled by customers and SAs alike.

When I spoke to an SA the other day, I was a bit surprised that the numbers ordered for certain patterns and colorways wasn't even close to double digits. And yeah, some of them won't reach the floor. They'll be pulled, and then the hunt is on for anyone else that wants that pattern/colorway.

thanks for the AW 2009 shawl pix, MaiTai. they're lovely! after 2 carres in Beloved India, I'll need to show restraint on that one, at least! H au Galop may be my fave...
but i bought so many this year, i think i can take a break till 2010!
as to toujours*chic's concern about the distressing BH sale, I think that "rush hour" there (apparently yesterday afternoon was brutal) makes a big difference on the experience. I went in at 10:00 today (2nd day of sale) and had the place to myself (except 2 other ladies, also returning). i'd recommend first thing 2nd day for the "normal" shopper (i.e., anyone not feelin' the bloodsport of it!) ;)

I am not really into the pushing and shoving aspect but I like to get in and out early- plus, most of the goodies are there the first day. However, with the way they had the tag team security going on with the scarves (choosing, bagging and then taking to register by SA), there was no way to cull and inspect for damage. For me it was not worth nearly an hour wait in line for items I was not sure about. But you are right, if one can wait until the second day, the atmosphere is a bit more civilized and relaxed.
