Since buying my Evelyne last year I have never used it in the rain, if it starts raining and I can't avoid it I throw it into a different bag and run to the car - can someone please tell me what happens to the clemence Evelynes in the rain? I think i'm being overly cautious, as its my only luxury bag that I prevent getting wet, and I have Louis Vuitton, Mulberry and Chanel. Advice welcome!

Don’t be afraid to use Clemence in the rain — your bag will be FINE! All my Evies have gotten wet and it doesn’t hurt them at all. I’m not sure where the myth started about Clemence blistering in the rain, but it’s not true! Use and enjoy your bag!

NOTHING happens to Clemence in the rain. I have told this story too many times to count but here goes....
I was on an international flight of about 4 hours, sitting in a bulkhead seat with my Clemence Evelyne PM on the floor in front of me. The kitchen/galley on the plane ruptured at the base of the wall and flooded the first three rows of the cabin with water (gross coffee water) to the point that my row was 2 inches deep in a puddle.
My Evie was completely soaked through as if it had been in a wash cycle. I blotted it with a few paper towels which did not help but we still had 2 hours of flight time left and it did not dry. I went through customs with my bag literally dripping water on the floor (embarrassing), and then had a 90 minute drive. I laid the bag out flat in my hotel for a day and it finally dried.
My bag is FINE except for very minor stretching of the pocket where objects were stored, because I had nothing else to carry my things in while the bag was wet for SEVERAL hours and I needed to clear customs and then drive. Everything inside it was either damaged or ruined, including a Sombrero Ulysse and a scarf. The bag IS black so I can't say what would happen to a light-colored bag with dirty water, but all this "Clemence blisters in the rain" stuff is totally false and comes from one misinformed blog. My bag survived a full soak with no drying for at least five hours.
I also own 3 Clemence Evie TPMs and had a Clemence Birkin for years til I got my Barenia B. All FINE in rain.
Clemence is nearly indestructible and you may be confident in rain

Thank you for telling the story again! Good for us newbies. I guess I read that misinformed blog because the fear of Clemence blistering From rain definitely stuck in my head. I have 4 H bags in Clemence and live in an area with unpredictable weather and now feel so much better about things! Thank you thank you! I don’t mind a little wear on a bag and was getting annoyed that I am too scared to use my Birkin on overcast days. My Evies are both black so I did worry a bit less about them in rain.

Another Ode to Evie... My SA showed me an Evelyne in grizzly this week and I can’t stop thinking about it. Brown is not my thing and I was not prepared to buy a bag that day, but it was so beautiful... It will haunt me.

Wow this is an amazing story. Thank you for sharing. We had torrential rain today and I switched out of my Clemence H out of extreme fear. Good to know Clemence is more durable than most of us think. I’m glad your beauty survived!!

Wow! what a story - thank you so much for sharing. I have learnt that through this I need to just wear it and not worry, it's my favourite bag and I wouldn't change a thing!

Do you guys prefer a gold Evelyne with palladium or gold hardware?

Personally, I prefer palladium hardware on my bags, and with contrast stitching that is almost white (which I think gold comes with but do correct me if that's wrong) it looks the best IMO, however, the Hermes gold leather is a lovely warm colour and so gold hardware would match perfectly the hue of the bag
