What a droolworthy collection! Thanks for sharing!

They are gorgeous. I keep saying I am going to take pics of my shawls. This is an inspiration. I too tend to go for the same cw over and over. Taking pics will help me focus on adding some different cw's this season. I tend to go for the red and blue ones too. They just seem to stand out more.

THIS is an enviable collection. SO many grails. You could open a store but how could youpart with even one? They are gorgeous~ALL of them. Impressive.

Amazing collection! And we are twins are three shawls!

Wow!! Your collection is amazing!!!!! Which one do you enjoy the most?

What an enviable collection! Such sumptuous color & great variation. U sure have a CS GM for EVERY occasion! I am sure your collection will be in my dream tonight!:p

Dear pjlatte, megt, TankerToad, xiangxiang, purselover and D Lee - thank you for your compliments !

Purselover, my favorites are the TB's and the green Paperoles. TankerToad - my thoughts exactly, I don't think that I am able to part with even one :)

Amazing collection Hermesick! I hear ya about the impulse buying, I have no advice because I am guilty of this too. I am trying though to be more mindful of what a CS GM may match in my wardrobe and whether or not I truly need it. There are some GMs I have only worn once since purchase which I think is a bit wasteful on my end. :shame:
Thanks ! Same here Nico, I also wore some of my shawls only once and later I even forgot about them ...... so you are my partner in crime :)

As promised , here is a group picture of my CS GM family. 41 members by now .... I am surprised by a high number of red shawls as red is really not my fav color :)

I am definitely an impulse buyer and it needs to change :) Any advice/suggestions about next directions will be welcomed :)
What a fantastic collection! You have such diversity in color and pattern. I, on the other hand, tend to buy similar designs and colors. I wish I had your eye!

What an impressive and gorgeous collection, simply stunning!
pierina provided such a thorough primer, so there's not much to add. I plan to use her advice on my second edit!
I will say that parting can be difficult. For my own collection, I've decided to part with anything I've had over a year that has never been worn. I may love the design, but if I'm not going to wear it, there is no sense in keeping it.

Thank you for sharing your fabulous collection, I'm sure many of your shawls are on quite a few wish lists!:smile1: it is a treat to see so many in one place.

How did I miss your pics, Hermesick? GORGEOUS collection!

Gorgeous, Hermesick, what a beautiful collection!! Swooning here.....I would never say that you shouldn't have more cashmere. You have made beautiful choices, with shawls for every season. Why should you change anything? Well done!!

Here are a couple of tactics I've used, if you are in the mood.. :smile1: It's most helpful to know what's most important to you. It might be having a large selection to chose from and in that case you're on the right track. :graucho: Someone else might want a very condensed, effective, frequently worn collection or a third person might just buy every shawl in a particular color or from a certain designer that they can get their hands on. It doesn't matter what your criteria are as long as you end up with what you want.

Love: Once the shawls are all out on the bed make an instant pile of those that you love - don't think about, just grab your most favorite shawls as quickly as possible. Then select the second faves, and you'll be left with those that don't move you instantly. Think about why you have that last group. Perhaps they were bought to go with an outfit or color that you don't use frequently, perhaps you saw it on someone else and it appealed, there are a million reasons why but the important part is to identify those that you do really 'have to have' and figure out why. Color, pattern? And what about each factor is crucial for you - for pattern, do you like geometric patterns, those with a retro feel, those with a scene or ones that tell a story, or possibly the most modern designs? Do you like colors that are an accent, like a great lip color, or do you prefer colors that blend in to those in your wardrobe? Some of both no doubt. :smile1: Maybe the red shawls hint at a move to more red in your life, or the opposite if you enjoy wearing red with neutrals? Take pics of the shawl groups.

Use:
Make another set of piles of shawls - the first one being those that you wear all the time. Then the once in a while shawls, and then the never/rarely ever worn ones. Again, try to figure out the common elements in each group - are they colors you love, color combinations that you enjoy, patterns you love, shawls that go best with your wardrobe or for certain occasions, shawls that you're saving for something special? Do you need clothing to go with an unworn shawl, is that why it isn't getting out? Take pics and compare these groups with the ones above.

Photos:
Try each one on in front of the mirror and take a shot in the same light, same pose, same makeup on, wearing a subdued neutral that works well for you. Drape the shawl over your shoulders so you see as much of it as possible. Looking at the pictures afterwards you may see things more objectively than most of us can while looking into the mirror. :smile1: Pay particular attention to the shawl color next to your skin and hair. I've taken pics with a different shawl on each shoulder to compare them. No matter how I'm saying 'I love that fuchsia______, the pale pink______ on the other shoulder looks so much better in the picture that I can't deny it. It's fun.

Ok, that's more than enough I'm sure! You don't need a manifesto, I just love thinking about these things. :flowers:

Pierena2, thank you for posting this. I've been struggling with some of my 90's and this approach will help me 'find my way'.

And yes, Hermesick, your GM collection is beautiful ... there are a number of my HGs present.

Thank you for taking the time to write and share your thought on this, pierina, it should be a 'sticky' it's so poignant and helpful!

Oh my, Hermesick, what a bounty!! I couldn't possibly add to pierina's advice, she spot on, but thank you so much for sharing, these shots are a joy to look at :hbeat:
