Ode to "Point d’orgue"

Oh, so you are going to get the mousseline in the spring? How exciting, cherryblossum! Then you and I will be... let me see, where are my notes???:reading:... oh, yes, here they are! We will be sisters!

You are right: I like to do research! (I suppose because I was a writer before I retired;)) Melora has given me the idea, with this thread, that it might be interesting to have an Hermès Scarf thread called something like "Fun Facts About Hermès Scarves." Not to authenticate, and not to compete with the Reference Thread, but to do exactly what Melora has done here, only for many scarves: tell the stories of the different scarves, when we learn about them.

But maybe I am the only one who thinks this is a good idea!:giggles:

I love it! Was it birkinmary who had/has a blog where she does some of this? I have her article on Turandot saved - it's fascinating, especially as I'm an opera lover.

I would love to see that link, birdonce! Turandot is my HG of all HG carrés... I'm an opera lover, too! One of these days I'll find it, but it has to be the right CW (red, preferably) at the right price!).

But in the meantime, since nobody is gifting me with the scarf, I would dearly love to read the article.;)

There is a lot of good information scattered here & there on blogs. I just wish it could all be pulled together in one place! For example, seton has a lot of great information on her blog.

But it's tricky, because some of the blog information (not seton's, obviously!) turns out not to be correct. If there were to be a thread like this, it would need a good moderator, who could fact-check.

Here it is! http://63gramos.blogspot.com/2011/10/natsuno-hidaka-i-turandot.html
I've read some of her other entries. I hope she picks it up again - they are fascinating.
There are reds right now on evilbay but just about all of them are pricey. I sadly let go of a beautiful one in a colorway I loved from a TPFer as it went over my self-imposed limit. I then immediately regretted it! But, is you get all your grails, you lose the fun of the quest!
I'd love to read seton's blog, if you don't mind posting or PMing me.

I still need to see the colors in the mousseline!
In 2012, when point'orgue was issued,I was drawn to the purple cw, which was so unusal and beautiful. But the reason why I did not purchased it was because the colors of the keys. I was particular about the colors of the keys on it. They should be white and black, or black and white like cembalo. I just could not stand their purple keys in person at that time! Now I regret it.

Thanks :blushing: :cloud9:
my speach still needs a lot of work though. last night, I went to a concert. Once inside, I realized I had forgotten something in my car, so I ask if I can go out quickly. 5 min later:
me: I'm back!
the lady at the entrance: oh, yes, I recognize the accent!

(bummer)
Silly lady. She should have said, "I recognize that gorgeous scarf!"

I understand! I also find the "Hommage à Mozart" with the BLUE violins very disturbing!!

"Hommage à Mozart" with green background? There are blue violins. Ummm....
Now I can accept purple keys of organs. It took a long time for me to be ready to accept them.
Blue violins I am not ready to accept them right now. Is that what they say avangarde taste? I don't understand it. Or H is running hundreds steps ahead? I need the interpretation of the blue violins.

No, you're not the only one thinking it would be a good idea. I even think it would deserve a whole subforum dedicated to scarf designs!

Yes indeed, Birkin Mary. So glad you found the Turandot article, Birdonce, and called Birkin Mary's wonderful scarf-background essays In "63 Gramos" to people's attention.

Melora, bless you for going to all this work. These pictures and explanations are an amazing gift to us all! (And your lovely written English has NO accent.)

Which book is that, cherryblossum? The CW on the left page is the one I just bought! CW 01, I think (Aubergine, Rose, Prune). It will be here next week... so excited! :happydance:

I do understand about the purple keys, but not being an organist I decided I could live with it. Now, if there was a scarf with a purple flute, I would have to say "No!" (As you can guess, I was a flutist...)

Do you know the scarf Les Bles, by Hugo Grygkar? 3 rabbits standing in a field of wheat. seton has it on her blog here: http://hermes.digitalurbana.com/2012/02/les-bles-1956/

When I was buying mine (the re-issued one) in 1987, I did not want one with blue wheat! It did not make sense to me. I got the CW that is in the Hermes ad on seton's page (the model is wearing it as a head scarf): the wheat is gold, the rabbits are dark brown. To me, when a scarf is showing "real" things, like rabbits, I prefer them to be the "real" colors. But when they are imaginary things, like Potager or Mythes et Metamorphoses, they can be any kind of color!

Point d'Orgue, to me, is a combination of real and imaginary. It is, of course, a real pipe organ! But it is presented in a very dramatic, almost imaginary way, as though it is flying towards you. At least, that is the way I think of it. And so... purple keys? No problem!:D

Perhaps it is a nod to Picasso's "Blue Period"? Although that would be going backwards in time, not 100 steps ahead! :giggles:

Now that is a fantastic idea! It is so difficult to research the carrés... going from blog to blog, and never knowing which ones know what they are talking about. I am still blushing that I wrote about my new (to me) Pani La Shar Pawnee, saying it had a certain number of colors, and seton (who knows everything) had to correct me. Well, of course, I did not sit down and count the colors... I read it on someone's blog! But anyone can put anything on the Internet; who knows if it is correct?

So a subforum, with very knowledgeable moderators to keep us all honest, is a terrific idea. Then there would be one thread for each scarf design. And this thread would be the first one in the subforum!:smile1:

Moderators! Please listen to melora!

Her essays are wonderful indeed! I've bookmarked her blog, because although I tried to read them all last night, it was getting late.:smile1:

She has so much good information there! And I love how she credits the information she gets from other people.

Azalie, do you know of any other Hermes Scarf blogs, other than 63 Gramos and Mai Tai? I know other bloggers who have an occasional article about a scarf they've purchased, but I haven't been able to find any other dedicated blogs.

Melora, +1 on Azalie's comment... you have created a gem of a thread!

Elaine, one can't go wrong with the delightful Tango Tosca's Scarf Circus (about to revive, I gather, after a hiatus). And one can pan for gold in the completed-listings descriptions of eBay seller "heroe9" -- these are often very informative and scholarly mini-essays about scarves she has had for sale. For example, on Les Parures du Vents and the auto hood ornaments that are the inspiring "jewels of the winds": http://www.ebay.com/itm/FABULOUS-He...D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557 .
