Ode to "Point d’orgue"

"Orgauphone et Autres Mécaniques" shows what looks more like a barrel organ, but it has pipes anyway. And it's a jacquart, which is always nice.
(Point d'orgue on a treble key jacquart... that would be a dream!)

I had a feeling you owned this one, melora... it is perfect for you!

Oh, Point d'Orgue on a treble key jacquard... I'm drooling at the thought!:hbeat:

This is an amazing organ Melora! Thank you for sharing it as well. I'm searching for this scarf if anyone comes across one:graucho:

I suspect you are not the only one, GG... melora's wonderful thread will probably create a flurry of interest in this carré! I know that I bought mine from reading its "story" here, and I'll bet I'm not the only one.:giggles: But until this thread, I hadn't even known this scarf existed!

Yes and no. The singular can also be used for a specific organ. The fem plural would be an emphasis on the beauty of the instrument, and doesn't have uo be used.
My teacher, for instance, always uses the singular when speaking about "his" pipe organ, even though it's a really big one in a cathedral. But someone attending to a concert there might use the fem plural

I know, French is weird!
Thanks and yes, French is weird. But all languages have their fun quirks!

My new Point d'Orgue arrived today, and I simply had to post a couple of model shots!

The first one is in honor of our dear melora, who knots her PdO this way all the time, so that le petit homme is in the center of the knot. It is very easy to do... just knot it like a man's tie! (You can see the close-up of the organist in the second photo.)

But it was a warm day on the coast today, so after I took the picture I loosened the scarf, gave it a slight twist, put a knot towards the bottom, and just draped it around my neck. (I will admit, I used Mai Tai's "magnets" trick to keep the knot from sliding back down to the center!;))

You can see from the third picture that I have not removed the care tag yet, but I will do that tomorrow. I store each care tag in its own little envelope, labeled with the name of the scarf.

The last picture shows the upper right corner of the scarf... a series of lovely little bells. Melora, I don't believe you have told us about these. Do all pipe organs have bells? Where are they located? How are they "played"?

Yeah! You got it! Is it as beautiful as you hoped?

I was planning on talking a bit about the little bells. From what I know, this is some kind of exotic stop. It doesn't exist on all organs, and is mostly found on german organs.
I found a video with a stop similar to that, although it's not really bells: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T1ianrMfr6s

I've also seen an organ with a stop consisting of little pipes ending in water. They made the sound of a bird. Not really useful, but funny.

Beautiful and I love the way you've tied it! The cw looks so pretty - could you take a picture of it unfolded?

This is wonderful, Elaine! Congratulations! You really have a great talent for displaying the beauties within the scarf with your ties. Are the colors even richer IRL?

I'll be glad to! Here it is, though it's a little "off kilter." I was standing on a ladder, and holding my iPhone over the center of the scarf, but it still keystoned a bit.

Does anyone know the trick for photographing an Hermes scarf so it comes out square, short of (eek!) tacking it to the wall?:p
