Hi box experts. As you know, I recently just bought my first box. Today I took her out for a stroke. Went to Chelsea to pick up some stuff for my baby, and then the stupid down pour came. I freaked out, poured out the rain coat, bought an umbrella AND jumped into a cab. Only by the time I went back uptown, the rain has stopped.

When I came home, I carefully inspected my poor baby. Luckily, I didn't see any wet stain. But what I did see is there was some minor scratches on the surface. I know it scratches very easily, and I know over time it will deliver a nice patina. But at the meantime, how do you use your box? Do you just use it carefree, or are you baby your box?

Thanks for sharing in advance!

part of the charm of box calf are the light scratches & marks, & the patina it develops. I use them "care free" but take them to the "spa" 1-2x a year if a deeper mark appears.

She's gorgeous, bbbochap! I've not seen many pics of box in this shade - is it BJ?

On average, how long does it take for box to develop a patina? Assuming regular use of, say, 3-4 times a week?

Thanks duna!
OK, so I know that patience is a virtue, but has anyone found a way to speed up the process? Like, perhaps, very careful, deliberate "polishing" with a stiff-bristled brush to make tiny superficial scratches??

^^ VanillaSkye, my SA once said to be a boxcalf bag needs alot of "handling" to develop a patina. The patina is actually from the natural oils from our hands. It's not the mere aging of the boxcalf to get the shine.

So keep using it!

Some things can't be hurried.

That said, I use Meltonian once or twice a year!
