I thought I could finally contribute to this thread. I could never buy a new box as I would freak out from all the scrathes and so I decided to go the vintage path way since I don't have kids and don't need my hands so much. (Elina and OB. You are my heroes!)

I just scrathed my bag the other day, but I don't mind it too much. In time it will become a part of the bag and box is truly a special leather. It's timeless and even though a brighter colour in a different leather is tempting, I know the dark blue wouldn't be the same in any other leather.

I love this thread, so much eye candy!

Here's a recent picture of my now 8 year old raisin box Birkin, affectionately known as Miss Prunella.

I try to avoid carrying it if it looks like it might rain but otherwise I try to take it out and use it regularly.

Not at all, I got a brand new BBK direct from the boutique earlier this year and was offered a new Box Kelly from the boutique last year (declined it and by the time I came to my senses it was sold).
