Any brand that’s high in demand does the same thing (Watches world is especially guilty of this, aka Pateks, AP etc).
+1 with @tallymia ’s posts above, but especially with this example. DH loves ALange watches and a friend asked if he happened to have a connection at Patek for the green face nautilus which is extremely sought after. DH did not, but he asked someone else for an introduction to a higher up in Patek corporate. after he wrote that person to inquire he was told basically that this particular model was essentially presold to existing clients before it even entered the retail locations (I assume Watches of Switzerland bc I don’t think Patek has its own). At ALange, there are limits to how many watches of a certain type are made and then there are limited to how many are allotted to an individual boutique. So an SA or SM expects to run down her existing roster of regular clients before it could even be put out for a walk in. One could argue that it’s unfair that luxury companies don’t step up the volume to meet demand, but when a client decides to spend for an item, or series of items, she would rather buy something that is limited and exclusive.
+1 with @lalame, of course. Everyone should be treated with courtesy especially when shopping luxury! Hugs

I will say that when I click with a particular SA, I have followed them to different retail establishments. (Dolce and Gabbana to YSL to Akris, was one example. I may continue to shop at the original shop, but their move makes it more likely that I will spread my wings and try new things.

To be clear I totally understand that loyal customers should be treated with above-and-beyond service, offers, etc. I'm just objecting to SAs who are actually rude to non-loyal customers. They're still customers... they shouldn't expect above-and-beyond, but they should expect standard customer service. And actually, LUXURY customer service because they're still buying a luxury item. Some stores, I swear if you're not a loyal client you might as well be shopping at Walmart and good luck to you until you pull out a wad of cash.

1000%, that’s a whole other topic which I’m sure many of us have stories. There should never be rude SA’s, regardless of who is shopping or not shopping with them. Sadly, not everyone is made to be in customer service...

Hi Everyone! My SA who I loved recently left so now I'd like to build a relationship with a new SA in the 5th Ave location. I prefer to work with a woman who doesn't pressure, patient, knowledgeable and responsive on text. If anyone has any recs, please share. Thanks so much in advance! :)

That was funny! I thought the same when I saw it... this is it? It's so ugly! I actually made a specific point to see it due to all the hoopla. I guess I don't qualify as an art expert.

I will go down there again next time I get to NYC, if anything, to check out the high end jewelry stores before they all shut down.

Chatting in this thread about NYC makes me miss it so much. Even with all its ups and downs... there's no place like NYC.

I’ve been to NYC a few times. But I’ve never been to Hudson yards! I had to look it up while reading this thread. I found that stair thing very interesting! Lol I’d def like to go on a “hike” there!

NYC is my fav city in the world. I live in Vancouver, somehow I always pick NYC as my vacation destination I know there are millions of other places to go but there’s just no place like NYC

I totally agree with you! NYC just reinvigorates me!

From the eyes of a tourist...
I was there about three weeks ago for a weekend of fun (not business).
I felt things are nearly back to normal. Busineses are open (VCA still requires an appt), you can sit inside restaurants, people are walking around day and night, food trucks are busy, it feels great. Except for masks required at certain businesses (VCA again! :annoyed: ), I was mask free most of the time, breathed the fresh air, and at times breathed the stinky NYC air! I really loved it. It's not as crowded as a typical touristy summer, but in a weird way, it feels great there are not so many tourists, which technically, I'm a tourist.

Oh... I want to share a new discovery for me this time... an outdoor Angelina cafe!
I have a certain path for shopping I do when I visit NYC, and it's mostly around 57th and then on Madison.
This time, I went down to 5th near the 50s, Cartier / Saks, and lo and behold... there is an little outdoor Angelina cafe in front of Longchamp, near Cartier. I am not sure if you like hot chocolate, but Angelina is famous for their thick hot chocolate, it's like drinking melted chocolate. The original tearoom is in Paris which is amazing, and they also have great pastries (and always a wait to get in, at least for me everytime I've gone). But they are famous for their hot chocolate and rightfully so (the hot chocolate is served in a mini carafe, super cute). Angelina recently opened a cafe/tearoom in NYC, but it's near Bryant Park, and I never go that far south.

Well, I saw this outdoor Angelina cafe and thought, is this THE Angelina? My beloved hot chocolate?! Yes, it is! I loved loved loved it! The hot chocolate is to die for. I had two cups while enjoying people watching (albeit the cups were paper cups, and not the cute little set up). Defintely worth going. If you have never been and want the full experience with the fresh pastries (pastry choices are limited at the outdoor one), Bryant Park is the full service cafe.

Anyway, I wanted to share that in case you might like hot chocolate.
Angelina is going to be on my shop path now when I visit the city.

I hope this was helpful, from one tourist to another!

That sounds like a wonderful trip! And thank you for recommending Angelina cafe. I’m not a fan of hot chocolate ( not into sweets) but I love coffees. I’ll definitely try it when I visit nyc next time! You don’t sound like a tourist when you know these little gems around the corners! There was this little cafe near Columbia university. I’m not a fan of tea but they had the best ones. Too bad I don’t remember the cafes name or the street name. Im still confused about street names by numbers lol

It’s nice to talk to someone who gets NYC! It is dirty and chaotic but glamorous and modern at the same time. I just love that combination! I loved walking through the city by myself. At the times there were still a lot of tourist around and it made me feel less of a tourist lol

Ah all the memories are flashing back now. Can’t wait to go there again in the future!

When I walk home I often find myself in awe of how gorgeous nyc is and then I bypass poop on the sidewalk that is so huge I wonder if it’s from a human and not a dog and then I’m like why do I live here again? This city can give you whiplash.
