NYC Tax For Chanel Bag

If you are in the philly area, go to King of Prussia for 6% sales tax (Philly native here). If you can find a dept store in Delaware (30 min drive south of philly), there’s no sales tax. I’m not really sure where you are, but it’s something to consider.

Wow, that's quite a difference. How was your experience shopping in Saks in comparison to the Chanel boutique?
The Neimans Chanel at the King of Prussia mall (suburbs of Philadelphia) is also now considered a stand alone boutique now so they get a lot more styles and inventory. I just bought the $5,300 Chanel 19 size large and it came out to $5,618 with the 6% tax. It would’ve been $5,764 in NYC. It makes a difference!

Just saw your post! Hello Philly co-resident! I just suggested the same before reading your post - lol. I don’t know about you but I also think the Neimans SAs are great.

PA state tax is 6%. Philly is 8% due to the addition 2% county sales tax.
Both Chanel boutiques are in the suburbs of Philadelphia and not subject to Philly county tax (as they both are in Montgomery county). I can confirm as I just bought two things at the Chanel at the KOP mall and was only taxed 6% (a Chanel 19 bag and earrings).

I should ask my friend if she's willing to take a trip to Philly lol. I know she visits the Saks boutique in CT. Do you like the 19 more than the flap?

Hi there! I grew up in the Philly suburb. Unfortunately, I now live in the Bay Area and sales tax is 9.75% which can be a bit eye watering when you’re buying classic flaps. I wish I’m still in the east coast haha. Neimans SAs are great, but Saks are too!

Honestly, absolutely! (Of course, safely and pursuant to covid protocols). If you’re in NYC we’re only 1.5 hours away so long as you escape the Manhattan traffic at the right time. There’s no sales tax in Pennsylvania - the 6% is a luxury tax. So if you want to buy clothes and even designer shoes there’s no tax. I wasn’t taxed on my jimmy choo boots I recently bought I think. It’s a nice savings if you need to get some stuff. The KOP mall is awesome and it’s so huge that social distancing is easy. Plus the stand alone Saks has a Chanel as well and is about 15-20 mins from the KOP mall if you want to visit both Chanel boutiques here. I just like the SAs at Neimans more.

I was literally about to buy a jumbo classic flap bc I needed an every day bag but when I tried on the 19 - size large (middle size) I just absolutely fell in love. I personally think the M/L flap is more of a go to dinner / evening out bag. You can’t fit a lot in it bc of the double flap. The jumbo is just too big and bulky I think. I’m 5’6 and a size medium / 28-29.

Hi guys, i live in DE and recently called in a Chanel store in NYC to buy a classic bag. But i was told since it’s one of the tax-free states, it is required that i come in store to show proof of residency before they can ship it to DE. Has anyone experienced the same thing? Thank you!

I believe it’s one of the new policies for phone orders to tax-free states. This has been discussed in another thread:
