Oh, regarding the Catalogue and ET "My Love Affair with Jewelry" ... yes, they bundled the two, reprinting the "Love Affair" book for this particular auction. I only know this through a piece on the net (something about "How Christie's scored the Elizabeth Taylor Jewels" or close to it) but apparently there was a lot of work behind the scenes as Elizabeth knew she was in decline and wanted everything to be just so when she did pass. It was all apparently very well organized in advance, to the extent that I believe she personally autographed a great number of the bundles to be sold for $2500.

They were not even available by the time I looked, which was a few days post auction-end. I did purchase one of the non-autographed bundles, which was $600. Ironically, considering my purchase, the catalogue only documents the live auction items and there is no way my purchases even figure into the book on her most famous jewels. Although I do not regret the purchase at all.

The box set did arrive again in a lovely lavender/violet box.
wow! you're so lucky! It sounds like a very exciting auction. I was following along on the live feed of the first day and the prices were crazy how they were jumping. there were also some great deals on some of larger diamond and gemstone suites.

I would love to see a picture of some of the pieces you bought. they are historic and you are sooo lucky to have won a suite of pieces:smile1:

Thanks ... I would post them larger but really sort of want to remain a little anonymous, as much as that is possible.

I will say she had some extraordinary jewelry, I've never seen or felt the like of the craftsmanship in terms of weight, scale, versatility (she had pieces that were made to be worn many different ways, as a pendant one day or as a brooch the next, necklaces that could be redoubled into bracelets with special clasps, etc.). When I felt them in my hands, it was that different from anything I've ever felt. You get reminded of how so much jewelry today is constantly made with economy in mind, which sometimes you don't see, but you often feel.

Elizabeth's jewels were unapologetically heavy, and I was surprised to see how many earrings she had which were custom-ordered to be both for pierced or non-pierced ears with this clever little folding post that I had to see in person to understand.

oh I guess that make's sense. I was so excited that a TPF member had won something from the auction that I forgot my manners. I completely understand:smile1:
