I, too, was shocked the Elizabeth Taylor diamond went so low. Granted, $7.8 million is out of MY budget, but I thought that surely that ring would go into the tens of millions. Over 33 carats of D colored potentially flawless diamond? A piece of history? Only $7.8 million? Someone must be doing a happy dance right now that they got such a deal.

The catalogues are available for purchase on the Christies website. Volumes 1 and 2 are jewelry. Thinking about getting them.

The history of the E.T. diamond is nowhere near the historical importance of La Pérégrina and the Taj Mahal diamond, so I don't find the results unreasonable.

Holy cow. I own the "My Love Affair With Jewelry" book and thought I might purchase the auction catalogues too, but at $150.00 there's no way.

Will someone tell me, how much did La Pérégrina end up going for?
