I’m so sorry to see Nordstrom go, but I can see why they failed.

No warehouse and no website until the pandemic started in 2020. I would sometimes order 5 items and they would arrive in 5 different boxes from different locations. Shipping is expensive.

The best items were at the Vancouver store, according to my old SA. I never shopped in store unless it was the anniversary sale and only went in to return. There just wasn’t much in store. All of my shopping was online.

I was the highest tier (Ambassador and would have been Icon if it existed in Canada), but there were no perks. Americans would get free dinners and bonus gift cards - we got nothing. Just the ability to shop the anniversary sale 2 days early, which had limited stock to begin with.

I had a SA but it was nothing like the US. There was no benefit to me for shopping with a SA vs the website. In fact, there were times that I would contact a SA, they took too long to get back to me, and the item sold out. The SAs didn’t even seem to care much that i was shopping with them, even though I frequently placed orders.

I think that it would have been best to have 2 stores, 1 at Yorkdale and 1 in Vancouver and to have launched a website in 2014 specific to Canada.

Great post. If you were the highest tier and the store could not give you special treatment for being a big spender then no wonder they failed. And retailers whose system of delivery consists of scrounging for inventory in stores (the bay, Harry rosen and I believe holts all fall in this category) and not for a warehouse have a very inefficient and expensive delivery process.

I don’t mean to be completely negative. I did like the website and the ability to add items to a wish list. i also liked that we were notified when items in our wish list went on sale. Their website was a million times better than The Bay’s and Holts. I find both of those websites frustrating and difficult to navigate. I guess my wallet is safer now that they’re closing, but I do feel horrible for all of those losing their jobs.
