This is very sad. As a small retail boutique owner I can attest to how BAD retail has been the last year. We were operating better during Covid than we are now. We don't have a Nordstrom here..but we have a Bed Bath & Beyond which are also closing retail. I think folks were happy to shop local and spend money the last few years to "support" Now we are back to everyone ordering online and expecting free returns (which is VERY expensive)

Super sad to hear this and that the website is already down.

I returned some stuff lately and am sure it's going to come back as store credit/gift card...Hope they can re-issue it back to me ASAP and I can spend it in store before/during the liquidation sale.

Gonna go to the actual store soon too

I have no idea what you put in place of the Nordstrom at Eaton's, or the Rack at One Bloor, or at the Bay at Yonge Bloor. I'm also bummed that this means the Nordstrom Cafe will also close - I love how old school / retro it feels to have a resto in a department store. I loved the cafeterias' in Eatons as a kid.

I'm bummed, but it seems all the department stores save maybe The Mart are hurtin'. The Saks now is pretty dismal (no Louis Vuitton, no Dior). The Hudson Bay's are all closed here at like, 6 or 7:00PM.

I have a really lovely SA in Gucci at Nordstroms' and I'd love to reach out and be like I'LL FOLLOW YOU TO ANOTHER GUCCI! (without being creepy) but I don't even know what to say.
I love the Nordstrom Cafe at Eaton's, too! It's such a relaxing place and the staff work hard. Ate some great meals there.

Really do wonder where staff will go after this.

I will miss the Nordstrom Vancouver store for the wonderful staff and service they provided over the last few years. My understanding is the Vancouver store was the only store that was profitable while the other locations were not. I feel for the staff who are losing their jobs. I do hope that the CEO will revisit keeping the Vancouver store open as it was the busiest with a high number of tourists and steady stream of customers from the local market, it is viable option.

Hope so too. I bet the lack of international tourism really hit the brand hard along with Covid.

As an international tourist I can tell you we LOVE Nordstrom and the product range there. There is so much product that is not available overseas. And it's really fun finding great deals at sale time, even if some products may be cheaper in the US market, we may not have access to them.

I can also tell you that when I went home and tried to order from Holts online- nup, they don't do international shipping. I was so disappointed! Mackage and many other Canadian brands and stores also don't offer shipping to Australia or international shipping at all.

Ssense.com does offer international shipping luckily, but obviously that's a different brand and vibe to Nordstrom. And part of the Nordstrom experience is about shopping in person, trying things on, the Cafe, etc.

I really loved being in Canada and hope this Nordstrom closure doesn't put other good retailers off from continuing to operate. Whether big or small.

Yes, the lack of tourists certainly played a factor on the retail market in Vancouver. During Covid, people were scared and did not spend money (Of course, I didn't and continued to shop!) Covid lasted 2 years here and I believe that was the contributing factor. Loss of jobs, lack of job security, etc are of one of the many things why the retail market suffered. However, Vancouver is a wealthy city and Nordstrom would have been able to return the Pre-Covid revenue #s (jmo).

With Nordstrom exiting Canada, there are few options to shop which is such a shame. Holt Renfrew has limited inventory and I agree it doesn't have the same shopping vibe as Nordstrom.

Canada has a lot to offer tourism wise but not having Nordstrom in the downtown core certainly will be missed.

Just came here to "mourn" and commiserate. Nordstrom Pacific Centre was always such a pleasure to shop at -- calm and relaxing -- I'll miss the experience, the convenience (and service), and the staff, for whom I feel the worst.
I too enjoyed shopping at Nordstrom in Vancouver for the same reason! I also liked the airiness of the ground floor, and found it much more pleasant to visit than Nordstrom Seattle (downtown location).

I read this article about what the spaces in Vancouver and Langley might turn into. https://bc.ctvnews.ca/will-vancouve...retail-spaces-when-nordstrom-closes-1.6298891

I just really can't imagine what will fill the giant spaces in Toronto as well. The Eaton's one is literally at the entrance of the mall. It can't be a hole. Or maybe it'll turn into a 3-storey trampoline centre .. *half-hearted joke*:hrmm:

They’re kinda effed because you can’t block it off entirely and make it office / work space and disconnect the mall from the UNIQLO, Samsung, H&M block and Cadillac Fairview already has office space on the Queen St. end. I don’t think you can really tear down and do a condo tower either without displacing those stores but who knows.

Maybe another Equinox?

TBF, though, there was nothing in Nordstrom I couldn’t find anywhere else. I liked getting the double points on big ticket purchases, but by the time Topshop left The Bay to go to Nordstrom I was already over Topshop so I’ve never bought a lot of clothes in store. I think other than a few purchases at the handbag department and a pair of Golden Goose… there really wasn’t anything I was buying. I found a few things in Nordstrom Rack but it wasn’t all the time I was scoring.
