I don’t get the bodega ads, is it because I’m getting old? It kind of reminds me of recent balenciaga ad campaigns I also didn’t like lol.
Omg before I saw your comment I came on here to share my judgey thoughts about the weird Nordstrom grocery store catalog. I see some cute clothes and stuff but the theme - pearls in tomatoes, guy sitting on a cheap plastic chair making his butt look all dented in, eggs, bottles, cans, no labels… It’s like a mix of trying to be super edgy high fashion… balenciaga! nailed it with that one!:giggle: …combined with a black mirror episode where people are trapped in a 1950s TV show.

The shoe in the eggs, the crooked toddler tower of fruit next to the “peak freshness” coat (what?!)… The guys are the best. Hard-working suit guy in front of the strange label-free bottles and white cans that look like TP rolls, grumpy (and hot) weekender bag guy by the weird fruit crate display, sneakers kicked on top of a box of cans like when my kid is on his way to put out recycling and then stops for a snack halfway and forgets.

I found it all very delightfully bizarre and kept chuckling to myself as I perused the shoes and bags and clothes (many of which I liked!). I really hope they have some of these props in store just so we can all discuss it and take selfies laying on top of eggs and sitting in shopping carts.:tup::no:

If you don't already work in the field, I hope you consider a career in writing sketch comedy!! This is hilarious!!

Can anyone post some pictures of the catalog for those of us unlucky ones that didn’t get it yet.
Thank you 😎
I can try tomorrow! In the meantime, check out and enjoy the video of this satisfied shopper on the app homepage so that you don’t miss out on the grocery design concept a minute longer:

My 2 cents on why I love the humor of the grocery campaign and actually see it as a response to the Balenciaga/Erewhon idea...

We're obviously living in an economic time where it's not easy for most people to go on a Nordstrom shopping spree at the drop of a hat. But by bringing in the idea of a bodega... the neighborhood shop where you go for necessities... I think what they're trying to do is promote their RANGE of price points and the idea that their goods are just as much "staples" as the groceries you buy every week. It adds a bit of levity to the idea of high-end shopping and makes it less stuffy (therefore more accessible or at least piquing the curiosity of a larger audience). I'm picturing the inspiration board for the campaign filled with Bobby Doherty's photographs and stuff from the Meow Wolf Omega Mart!

Balenciaga and Erewhon... a supremely luxury brand and perhaps the country's most expensive, alienating grocery store... is a partnership that emphasizes the exclusivity and unattainable nature. I think Nordstrom is trying to do the opposite!

I think this is a great point, and this is probably exactly their intention. I found the pictures really weird (in a funny bizarre way, as I said) - especially the guy with the dented butt with thigh burn from balancing on that chair. BUT - inclusivity and framing the excitement of shopping for fall in an approachable way is welcome. Even the funny weird aspect of it makes it more approachable.

On a personal note, I totally feel justified throwing some jewelry and bags and undies in my cart because they are necessities!

I need to review the catalog again so that I can share specific comments on the goodies with you all. Everyone do the same!! Priorities people!

I will also post some catalog pics after work since I completely understand that it is unreasonable for any of you to wait until noon ET time tomorrow (not being sarcastic here). Discussion of catalog specifics = today/tonight. Discussion on full preview = tomorrow and onward.

YEEHAW!!

Seriously, we need something to talk about before tomorrow. How long have we been doing this? Like 15 years, right? It was at least 12 years because I used to talk to y’all while I was working & I got laid off 12 years ago.

This is the first time in all that time that it’s been crickets. Usually we have 20+ pages by now!
I think people are excited but the thrill has dwindled over the last few years. Last year I saw so many people exhausted with the loss of brands and quality of the items.

I'm definitely gonna stock up on basics but I'm over the thrill of the sale in general. The quality is so sub par, the trends are not panning out as much as they used to, and like most people say so many of these Anni sale items sit in our closets with tags on them. I've tried to resell them and they go for so much less than expected.

I just ask myself would I want this full price on a day where I didn't feel like they made this some sort of hunger games type shopping day.

The influencers have also exhausted people, they claim they buy just about everything and it's getting to be ridiculous. If I see one more person staring cross eyed into their phone and trying to pose like posh spice i'm gonna 🤮
