Non "designer" high quality leather bags

for a reasonable price point (btw my Gryson Clio is $1500. and I call it a designer bag.)

Try a Dooney -- or catch a good sample sale and get a good handbag at a good price. If you live near an outlet, I would try Coach or DB.

I have never seen a Tano irl, but there are those here who love the brand.

But you do need to get us a price point that you are comfortable with. As you can see, there are a lot of opinions as to what is highend/designer.

Basically I need a big bag for bringing books, papers and lunch to work (I'm a teacher) every day, I don't mind paying up to 500 or so, for something well made/substantial (books are heavy :)) High fashion and/or fancy brands would be inappropriate, (not that they are in my price range for my working wardrobe.) But I don't want anything that looks cheap either. Coach quality would be perfect, but I would worry that it is too easily recognized as a "brand" all my students are carrying!!

If you are a grade school teacher, I am assuming the girls would be carrying the signature bags rather than the leathers. So I think you would be safe with an all leather piece. My sister uses a leather Coach tote for work, it still looks like a Coach bag but doesn't scream it.

^ Aren't Grysons starting to run into the $600 - 700 range? I was browsing NM one day and it actually stuck out to me that they WERE quite expensive for what they are...I bought a Gucci canvas bag as a gift for my MIL last September and it was around $650. So I actually thought "wow, Grysons cost the same as some higher end brands now".

I did specify "on sale" - sorry if that was not clear. I often see Grysons for around $250 at Nordstrom Rack, for example. I got my Sophie satchel for $200 last summer.

That is also why I asked the OP to clarify what she meant by not "designer". To me, all the labels I mentioned (which I own and LOVE) are designer, especially compared to what I used to buy years ago (Nine West, etc.). However, for some people designer means only the biggest high-end names like LV, Chanel, Gucci, etc. I hope I have not ruffled any feathers. :flowers:

yes you are right however you said the gucci was canvas. grysons are of great quality leather.

You might want to check out TJ Maxx or Marshalls. You can find some nice, not readily recognizable brand leather bags there. Usually there are a few Claudia bags and other Italian brands, in addition to the Michael Michael Kors bags that chiffre suggested. Most of these bags are $250 or less.

Cole Haan and Kenneth Cole are also excellent suggestions (both of which you can also sometimes find at TJ Maxx!).

Oh, Funny you should mention Elliot Lucca. I was at Sam's today and they had them near the jewelry showcase. I was surprised to see handbags there, and I liked theElliot Lucca bags that they had there. All under $200.

That's great! We belong to Costco rather than Sams, I've seen a few bags there but nothing special.
