Did anyone see the video of Niki Sky purging almost all of her handbag collection?
What did you think?
I think it's good for her if she feels it's weighing herself down.
However I felt she was condescending discussing people wearing these bags as part of a herd; as well as thinking people wear them for competition.
However she does make some valid points about self worth and self validation.
Interesting coming from someone who previously influenced people to buy these items.
that she is trying to rebrand herself as very profound rich mum who came from nothing but is old money somehow ... more videos she makes more she digs herself into her own BS, these people are not self aware regardless they supposed efforts

I would believe her if:

1. Deinfluencing wasn't such a huge trend
2. She didn't use the word "purge". It's the other side of 'binge'.
3. She's listed her things for sale on 'X-closet' and promoted them on the vid
4. Lists everything she's wearing
5. Her 'quiet luxury' vid is just around the corner
6. She's very whiny
7. She's not on the way to a nunnery
8. She's just discovered not all 'it' bags suit everyone
9. She's making up sh*t and sounds nuts
10. She's very, very whiny, and she doesn't stop being whiny
11. if she purged also stuff which maybe doesnt have visible logo but is recognizable like all chanel, Hermes shoes etc. I can see her buying Birkin next

Thank you for saying this. This is the unspoken dirty little secret. This is an extreme level of privilege that people don't acknowledge.
It requires privilege to amass a large amount of anything, but especially luxury goods.
It requires privilege to just as easily decide to toss out all said goods.
It requires privilege to have the time and freedom to navel-gaze in the way described in the video. There are many places in our world right now where people are, quite literally, trying to survive and do not have the luxury to assess their consumption habits or their parenting skills by the metric of shopping.
Perhaps the lack of acknowledgment of that fundamental privilege is what is rubbing all of us wrong and what is making it seem like she's preaching...?

Edit: Thank you for starting this discussion. It's fascinating.
from her latest video, I see that this is what is going on, in US it is very popular to push the narrative from rags to riches and somehow she believes it herself (because her mum got divorced ... well...) and has no idea how detached from reality she is
even when she said - ''I didnt want such a huge house'' - yes but you have it, woman wake up!

it requires a privilege to ''just be mum'' and not care about her business (because she is not a sole provider, or main provider anyway)

Her spending helped her gain subscribers and followers. She's made a lot of money spending it. Now she's probably financially independent enough that she can cut back. 🤷‍♀️
I have to say this (last thing I promise)
this is missing from her acknowledgment:
all this crap I was chasing for clout, for approval, for attention gave me money, gave me a man (and kept him), gave me an incredible lifestyle with humungous house and tesla to come with it, yes I struggled to have children and couldn't tell you but once I got them I made money of of it too (I wanted to be relatable, but in all realness, nothing is off limits when it comes to earning), all this marketing gave me my freedom and I forgot how I got it as now someone else takes care of me and my kids (including my husband's parents in the opposite house) and I dont feel obliged to make videos about idyl and such, so brands listen up, this msg is for you actually, dont bother me with branded low quality stuff which doesnt align with my privileged life, so unless you are top tier brand like chanel, hermes etc dont even bother as I dont need you anymore ...

That sounds very similar to what Jerusha Coture said about why she's leaving you tube/instagram. She's tired of all the brands and collabs etc.

this was a great interview. still she continues to contradict herself.

I couldn't get through more than a couple random tidbits,I jumped around the video. She kept the Cartier and the VCA bracelet because those had sentimental value, but tossed the other stuff? Then talks about living in a custom built large home (that some might say is a mansion) for "resell purposes" (her words not mind) and she'd love to downsize to a cabin in the woods. THIS IS EXHAUSTING to follow along.

Oh, and then cue the 'I am working on something aligned with my new identity' aka the new money grab coming along. I'd also like to point out most of her subscribers are likely teenagers and young women who she will attempt to sell this 'new project' to.
