Did anyone see the video of Niki Sky purging almost all of her handbag collection?
What did you think?
I think it's good for her if she feels it's weighing herself down.
However I felt she was condescending discussing people wearing these bags as part of a herd; as well as thinking people wear them for competition.
However she does make some valid points about self worth and self validation.
Interesting coming from someone who previously influenced people to buy these items.

I saw some of the video. I didn't like her POV of the herd mentality or the competition but I am no where near her social life status to even come across such situations. I thought people always bought what they love? How is it a competition when there isn't a finish line and no awards to be achieved? However, good for her for purging. I'm going to take the positive encouragement POV and try to purge some of my bags.

Personally I found it a bit extreme

I've notice it's been a trend. The thing that annoys me is that people are purging for virtue signaling. Am I suppose to feel shame about bringing my fancy bags around?
If that's the goal then let me tell you it's failing. Mine aren't even that fancy but I have 5 bookshelves full of bags! My mom and my friends say it looks like a store. I feel no shame. I love what I love! :shrugs:

Exactly. I was at a family gathering and someone who is known for having expensive tastes told me she got rid of all her luxury purses and clothes. I'm not sure how many purses she had and how many she kept. Her reasoning is that she wants to focus all her time on her daughter. Declaring oneself as a good person doesn't make one a good person. I must be an irresponsible parent for taking out my Loewe Small Puzzle . Personally I'm not a fan of luxury hauls from YouTube. When I watch it, I question "did they really love all these pieces that they had to buy it in one trip?" Then a few months later they talk about items they got rid of and the cycle of binge-then-purge consumerism continues. I take my time when buying a luxury item because I have no intention of selling them.

I agree how does having designer bags take away from your being a good parent? In fact I think it's important for parents to have things they enjoy and focus on , and I think it's healthy for kids to see their parents take care of themselves. It's ok if parents are people too.

I thought it was disingenuous. If you scroll through her past videos or Instagram it’s clearly of a person that likes fashion in a classic trendy girl kind of way. Her insta is well curated with a luxury accessory featuring on most of her photos. Only last year she was telling us handbags were investments.

Is she now telling us she wasn’t being her authentic self at all and just trying to keep up with the fashionistas?

I found it a little harsh with some of her language she used, made it sound as though all girls were competitive and negative. Not sure what world she lives in but I find it very hard to imagine. Maybe she did wake up and had an awakening but I just think she’s bored with her collection and realized it’s too much. This is what happens when you just buy luxury items every month and choose the same items that almost every fashionista has.

Come to think of it, it's a somewhat odd thing to flex. Maybe they need to sell to get some extra cash. Though I plan to never sell, I would consider if I absolutely need to.

I am a single parent and I am grateful to have a job with a salary that still provides our basic needs but also allows room for disposable income. I can save up for nice things and travel. I like taking my kid to designer boutiques just to show her that single women don't need partners to gift them nice things.

I love that attitude and kudos to you for being able to support you both!
