Depends. I've been to a party at an exclusive members club once (a friend was a member) and the organizers had actually seperated the nouveau riche from the old money members. One half of the room was filled with the nouveau riche and their guests and the other half with the old money people and their guests. The bouffet was in the middle. :p

What a ridiculous idea!

I know! It was pretty funny and kind of awkward. If you're going to accept both old and new money people as members, why seperate them?

If you're an "old" and "new money" dining club that means you're simply a rich people dining club and there's no need to differentiate between members. Also, it's not like all "old money" people are like the stereotype: super classy and low key and don't value possessions. But those who do fit that stereotype are not part of clubs like these. That's the point I was trying to make.

I think the biggest difference of "old" vs "new" money is, people that come from generations of wealth don't necessarily need to boast about it. The way they live speaks for itself. I wouldn't say they hide it but they're not taking pictures with bars of gold, stacks of cash, sitting next to bentley's and hermes bags ala the Kardashian's/Disicks

Not everyone with recently acquired wealth like to boast about it, and I don't get why people with "old money" think they are better than those with "new money". The only thing they did to have that kind of money is to be born with it, their ancestors were one nouveaux rich.

Where I live there are only 2 members only clubs - in the entire country. There aren't many old money families here; most wealthy people are nouveau riche so if these clubs don't accept them as members, they'll go out of business. The way they organized the tables that day was ridiculous and pointless since all members have the same rights but it did happen.

Social media provide an outlet for showing off, IMO.

From my experience, people who're born to old money don't pay much attention to material things. Sure, they enjoy some fine things but it's not their number one priority in life. They value good education and wise business choices more than they value money per se and they view their wealth as a means to live a good life, not as their sole purpose. The nouveau riche are usually the ones that show off their wealth.

This is generalizing. There are greedy old people money and there are humble young money people as well. I'd only use the phrase nouveau riche for the rude young money [emoji4]

Canapes, caviar, and foie gras were served at the start of the elegant reception, while the night was capped off with a late night meal that included mini sliders, french fries, mac and cheese and milkshakes.
And the guest list was just as eclectic as the dining options, with a crown prince, supermodel, and handful of Bravo reality stars among those who were on hand for the very exclusive fete.

'They’re like a prince and princess,' she added.
The newlyweds started their relationship in 2011 after meeting at Petra Ecclestone and James Stunt's Italy wedding in 2011.
