No denying that she's good looking... I highly doubt she would have made it this far if she wasnt. As for kim she was a cutie pie way back when but Biggie must have really done a number on her self esteem. That's funny considering he wasnt that much of a looker himself but a man with talent, money and charisma can really make you loose your mind. I heard it killed her when he went and married faith. That's when the whole descent into "I need to look like someone else" began

I think Kim had low self-esteem (no knock on her, lots of women do) even before she met him. I believe she was in love with him even before he blew up. If he hadn't met Puff they probably both would be together living in Bed-Stuy.

I don't know much about Faith but Kim seemed to be ride or die chick for Big. To watch him up and marry someone he only knew for a few weeks must have really hurt. I wish she had just gotten over it after a while instead of carrying all that pain for life.

I think she's one of the worst lyricist that I've heard in years, but I find her so pretty without the neon extensions and makeup. I know people keep saying she's had a ton of plastic surgery, but her body is perfection, imo.

I think her beef with Lil' Kim is ridiculous. There are so few female MCs in the game, and the few that exist feel the need to argue over petty stuff. Foxy and Kim got into it, too, years back. Gone are the days of Queen Latifah and MC Lyte, where your words got you somewhere in the industry, not your body.

Thank you! Latifah and Lyte, hell, even some of Salt N Pepa's lyrics were really good. And to me, that's the distinction between hip hop and rap. Hip hop focuses on solid beats, production AND lyrics. Most rappers today just slur auto-tuned rhyming words over a thrice massaged Funky Drummer beat and call it a day. And while I might dance to it, mostly cause I'm buzzed, I don't give it much respect past that.
To be honest, I don't even know who Nikki Minaj is, but from what I can tell, she's not someone I need to check out.

Yeah, you can definitely pass on this one...unless your interested in hearing how her flow is tighter than a d*ick in the butt. (Yes, she actually says that on one of her verses).

Oh and yeah, Jean Grae is pretty solid. Saw her open up for the Roots and Common (one of the best shows ever!) and she def held her own next to a couple of the industry's most prolific lyricists (Common and Black Thought)

I've heard Nicki praise Kim and acknowledge her influence in an interview when those crotch pictures were released. Kim is VERY thirsty for attention right now and giving lapdances on stage to 10 yr old songs isn't cutting it anymore.

Nicki's older stuff is less rainbow bright but I guess she's just trying to appeal to the teenyboppers (that sellout arenas, purchase ringtones, & request songs on 106 & park and on the radio).

Im in my 20's and I love Nicki.

@BoombakaThat's all it is to me, I just think Lil Kim is just a little salty right now.

I agree with what others have said, Nicki's mixtapes are better than what she has out commercially.

And with Drake...I appreciate him for being different from a lot of the other rappers. He may seem corny but at least I don't have to hear kids rapping about leaving folk brain in the street when they repeat some of his songs.

yeah probably but like i said, pop culture goes in cycles. Will nicki be the hottest thing out 5 years from now? hell no. For one thing, relying on a gimmick (ie barbie) might give you that coveted breakthrough song or moment but to build a solid foundation especially as a female rapper, people need to take you seriously. Other wise its only a matter of time before the label puts out another oversexed nicki minaj /lil kim clone and you will just fall to the way side. I personally cannot wait for the day when there's a female rapper who make it big that I actually find inspiring on some level. Someone who makes me go hmmm and gets me excited about mainstream hip hop again. The crap out there just doesnt cut it which must be why i hardly ever listen to the radio.

True. That's why I call him emo rap lol but the way some people were hyping him up to be the next saviour of hip hop was a huge turn off. Just goes to show how the hype machine can backfire. Let's be honest, the only real message in drake's music is how much it sucks being famous and the trials and tribulations of finding love when you have so much money hoes and clothes:graucho: Add to that the usual sprinkling of bravado and I'm the best to EVER do this and you pretty much have Drake as an artist in a nutshell. I cant go through and ENTIRE album of that. I want to hear a story, a little social commentary if you can provide that. Not just punchlines every other bar

^ that's what bothers me about him. On the one hand he's super sweet and shy and blah blah blah, but then he can also be cocky when he acts like he's the biggest thing.

I do think that he's talented, but when I listen to his music I'm not moved by the depth of his lyrics.

You summed his lyrics up perfectly. I don't mind him either way, it is a welcome change from the glamorizing drug rap that Wayne and the others put out. He certainly came onto the scene in a big way though. Every freaking time I turn the radio on his song is being played- on rap and pop stations.
