Nicki Minaj BS No Time to Zip Wardrobe Malfunction STAGED

Nicki Minaj CLAIMS her dress was unzipped during her performance at the VMAs because she didn't have enough time to get ready ... but that's BS -- she pulled the same stunt during rehearsals.

Eyewitnesses who watched Nicki's rehearsal Sunday morning tell TMZ ... she walked on stage wearing the same dress -- unzipped. One eyewitness says it caught her eye because she initially thought Nicki had come out in a robe.

We're told Nicki was wrapping her arms around the dress in a "weird" sort of way ... trying to manipulate it to see how much would be exposed.

And we're told ... the VMAs created a make-shift dressing room right off stage -- draped with black sheets -- so she would have enough time to change.

Whatever, it worked ... everyone's talking about it.

Nicki Minaj rocks a plunging neckline while hitting the press room at the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards held at The Forum on Sunday (August 24) in Inglewood, Calif.

The 31-year-old rapper was joined by Jessie J, who performed with her on the opening number for the show.

“Press outfit #vmas #mtv #bangbangweekender handmade trousers and top that I designed with my UK stylist Chloe and seamstress’s Alida and Jim �� thank you x hair @alishadobson makeup by me ☺️��,” Jessie wrote on Instagram about her outfit.

So the zipper broke for the performance, but magically fixed it self after the performance. :okay:

I thought nicki kept getting a wedgie and was trying to low-key dig it out on stage. That's my take on her reaching back there. I wish she'd had a better performance outfit.

Oh god I thought the same thing. I kept thinking, poor girl, didn't they do some test runs in these? It couldn't have been intentional, because there's no way anyone is going to think pulling our your wedgie is remotely in the wardrobe malfunction ballpark as an unzipped dress.
