Hm, I do this too. I can't really suggest anything to help. Do you also notice you bite when you're stressed?

Also, I don't really feel like polishing my nails helps, because I never bite them... only the skin around them :(

you're not alone!! ugh i have this problem too.... polish helps but as soon as it starts to chip i start to pick.... it's gotten better with time though and like others have said nice nails are somewhat a reward not to pick!

- where can i get a cuticle oil pen??

I used to have this problem - I would start with a small tear and then it would get so far down it really hurt as did the hangnails . I finally gave in and got acrylics - hard to bite and the cuticles usually have no tears. you could get very short ones, but it would keep you from playing with your nails. GL it is a hard habit to break:D

I'm a cuticle picker from waaaaaay back. I find if I keep them super moisturized, there isn't much for me to "grab" on to or mess with. I've been carrying around a small tube of hand lotion and Carmex in my pocket at work and putting one or the other on instead whenever I feel the need to pick at them, and it's really really helped.

I have this problem too! I started my freshman year of college and still do it! But I've gotten way better (they used to bleed and look so bad, now they look almost normal). Here are my tips for you! First off DO NOT get your cuticles cut! The more they are cut the harder your skin is. It has to grow "harder" or tougher to protect itself from the damage...then as it dries out you'll get that urge to pick at it. So make sure any time you get a mani to ask them to just push the cuticles back and not cut them.

As for cuticle creams I have literally tried everything...even random home made things. I love rosebud salve (Sephora for around $5-10). The only downer with that one is that it gets kind of greasy if you touch other stuff. Piggy from this forum recently recommended "Thymes Essentials Cuticle cream." I ordered it on Amazon a week ago and LOVE IT!! It's not greasy and works SO well!! my cuticles are light years better! The key is making sure you put it on all the time. As long as your cuticles don't dry out theyll get better.

Other than that put lotion on your hands religiously. (I like a hand cream by sephora or laura mercier). the more moisturized your hands are, the better off for your cuticles. And lastly, drink TONS of water...it really can help with your skin and cuticles.

But I really do recommend this thymes cream...I had my doubts but ms. piggy knows her stuff!! (by the way...thanks piggy, you've saved my fingers:yahoo: )

Oh and another quick one. Sephora sells cuticle cream in "pens" that are good for the go. I like the "green" one (i think it's the "healing" one). They are more convenient then digging out a pot and using your fingers to apply. it doesn't work as good as the rosebud salve or thymes cream, but if you're at work or out and want to be more descreet it's better.

I agree with the above:

1. Moisturize and use a cuticle remover liquid to remove and push back cuticles. Then you'll get rid of those annoying little pieces of skin that you want to 'fix'.

2. Use Mavala STOP, it really really tastes so nasty that you won't be tempted!

3. Keep focusing on the fact that having healthy cuticles is a must for great looking hands.

I use a cuticle trimmer. I bring it with me everywhere and I also just keep it with me to use when I think I'll get fidgety. I've had the same problems as you, but using this tool helps relieve my need to pick at my cuticles, and it works a lot better at keeping them neat so I'll less likely pick/bite at them.
