That last picture really caught the holo effects. Everyone says how hard it is to get an accurate picture, you did a really good job. How did you reduce the size and/or pixels to get it to the right amount to post? I'm going under the assumption here that it increases the megapixels when you use a higher resolution, maybe it doesn't? Did you use a flash? I'm sorry, but I am trying to take better pictures and I want to pick your brain a bit since you did such a good job.;)

No worries! Thank you for the compliments!

I was having trouble getting a good holo representation on my normal setting (the 3rd pic - no flash), so I thought I would try the super vivid setting on my camera. It super-saturates the colors in your pic, which is good for certain things, but I wouldn't use it for everything. As you'll notice, my hand looks orangey-red in the 4th pic (super vivid - no flash), but in the other 3 pics you can see my true skin tone. So, I put my nails under a lamp at an angle and shot it without the flash. I had to prop the camera up on my knee to take a steady shot :) Using the flash will wash out your colors in dark settings - or the picture won't make at all if you are using the macro setting. Also, you need to make sure you can prop the camera up on a steady surface if taking a pic in dim lighting without the flash, or it may come out blurry.

As for the sizing, I emailed them to myself and uploaded the pics from my mobile app. I have it set so it will auto-size attachments. I'm lazy like that ;) Otherwise, the size would be much too large for the forums (higher megapixels means a larger photo, as you correctly guessed).

I don't know what kind of camera you have, but there are tons of books out there about digital photography - even for specific cameras. I'm still reading one of the better books about my camera, and it has helped me take much better photos already! As you can tell, I love taking pictures :)

Sorry for being long-winded. I tried not to make that too wall-of-texty :) Feel free to pm me if you have any other questions. Hope this helps!!

Not too windy at all. I have alot to learn as to how to do these things. When I first started coming on tpf, I didn't know how to do anything, it seems. I have made some progress, but am continuing to try to learn more. Taking better pics is on my goal list.

It's up to you. Personally I prefer wearing one for an easier application. Just checked it out, it's there :)

Excellent, I will have to invest in one. I'm not good at all at applying so anything to make it easier lol I have incredibly shaky hands.

Just got my haul of NFU. OH inc my won holo:D Out to work now but I'll post some pics of my haul and dodgy mani, just not sure which to wear first:graucho:

Is the aqua base necassary for the holos? I think it's out of stock on the UK site, last I checked it was pre-order.

I did a test with different bases, tops, and aqua base between each holo layer (which are Fabuloustreet's directions), and here is what I found:

1) Aqua base by itself is best for ease of application, but it chips easily
2) I liked doing a layer of aqua base between each holo layer - it made application much easier.
3) it was a hot mess with only Orly Bonder as base coat - clumped and wrinkled.
4) Orly Bonder plus 2 coats of aqua base on top made for the easiest application while keeping the polish in my fingers longest. The key here is to let all of the base coat layers dry completely before adding the holo layers.
5) Not all top coats will work with these holos. Out The Door and Revlon Extra Life No Chip both kept the holo effect as well as not wearing any top coat, but it extended the life of the mani much longer than going without a top coat. I have a cheapo Rimmel top coat in my desk (an emergency purchase from a convenience store), which completely ruined the holo effect.

So, basically, the application that worked best for me was:
1) Orly Bonder - let dry completely
2) 2 coats aqua base - let dry completely
3) 1 coat holo - let dry completely
4) 1 coat aqua base - let dry completely
5) 1 coat holo - let dry completely
6) 1 coat Out The Door (the thicker formula made the polish last longer than the thinner, non-fast dry formula).

Hope the aqua base gets stocked for you soon! It is well worth the $12.50 (US)!

Thanks for the tips. I used my holo #63, not an easy process but not to bad either but i'm definatly getting the aqua base for future:smile1:

Used 4 coats for even coverage (ignore slight bump on my finger lol I chipped my nail envy and didn't reapply, I know bad!!)
