Beginning to abandon the Tiffany idea. Last Spring I reset my 1.25 round into a HOF Halo setting. My original setting was a platinum ring with tapered baguettes on each side of the center round stone. There is a similar style pictured on Tiffany's site. In fact, they show it with a round or an emerald & tapered baguettes. Well, I kept my empty setting and just looked at it. It is quite beautiful. Should I purchase another loose stone and have it set into my empty ring? Do you think they can put a 1/2 carat stone into a setting that once held a 1.25 round? And I don't want to do round again. So do you think emerald, princess, or another shape would work well? I guess they could make it work. Has anyone ever done such a thing?

No problem about not remembering! I have a hard time remembering on TPF too! I have a 1.25 round in a HOF halo setting. It looks a little dressy and cocktailish sometimes to me. So I would wear that one when I'm dressed better! Then I'm thinking of putting a new stone of about a 1/2 carat in my original setting. It is a platinum setting that has tapered baguettes on each side. What do you think of this idea? Is it difficult for a jeweler to fit a new different shape stone into it or can it be done? Then I would wear the smaller new ring to knock around in. Eventually my daughter will have the new smaller one. Another member suggested emerald shape. There is one like that on Tiffany site.

I'm not 100%, but I believe a NEW setting would have to be made to accommodate a smaller stone, regardless of stone shape.

What happened to the Tiffany plan??

"Cold feet" on Tiffany plan! Would it have to be an entire new setting and/or ring to put in a loose diamond? What do people do with their old empty settings when they reset their original stone? You would think they could put something in the original. I think I got off the Tiffany idea when contessa seemed to think it wasn't the wisest choice for a plain princess stone. But I may have misinterpreted. Is there something I can do with my empty original setting?

ame - I don't have jeweler's vocabulary! Please excuse my ignorance! I think I know what you mean by "head". But does setting refer to the entire ring? Or can we still somehow use the ring and just design the part that holds the stone? Or would that be more expensive to try to use the original setting. It is a shame to just let a platinum baguette ring sit empty in my jewelry box.

kohl_mascara - Thank you thank you! Finally some support here! So how do I make it work? Obviously I will call the jeweler who reset original into HOF setting. He is the one who told me to keep the original setting. He said it wasn't worth to sell it to melt. Perhaps he will be able to suggest what to put into it. I'm just wondering what will be easiest and prettiest.

Is a new head expensive? Any idea of price range? Someone suggested an emerald shape diamond. I love the look of the Tiffany emerald diamond set in the middle of the tapered baguettes. Also, any idea of price range of a non-Tiffany 1/2 carat excellent specs emerald shape diamond? I looked on Blue Nile and they had no ideal cuts. But they had very good cuts for just under $3000. Is Blue Nile a pretty good gage with pricing?

Contessa - You've been so helpful and I appreciate your taste and opinion. What shape would you try to put in the original setting?

I'd suggest cushion if they weren't so difficult to locate (quality) & a cushion might be too similar to that of a round. Perhaps you should take a look at more Novos at Tiffanys. Let them bring in 50 or more......you have to be happy. But a cushion w/ tapered baquettes looks GORGEOUS.......see Mark Morell's work!

An Asscher in the size you're looking at w/ an ideal cut will look TINY, so I'd avoid those unless you're wanting to use a larger stone.

The Tiffany "ribbon" ring is stunning as well. Do you like that one?? It's unique and different.

The Novo e-rings I've seen at Tiffanys have been beautiful.......I wonder why the ones they showed you were so unimpressive......
