New Gucci packaging

I've only made my first Gucci purchase last week and I've ordered my bag online (Gucci Soho Disco). I'm super happy with the bag, however, I've had a weird story with the packaging.

I was expecting the new packaging, because I knew they've discontinued the old one. To my surprise, they've put the bag in a small cardboard box in that cheap feeling white bag (pretty sure it's polyester and I have no idea how polyester is environment friendly). I've called Gucci asking why they didn't pack it in a Gucci box to secure it for the shipping and they told me there are no boxes for Discos (and the woman wasn't very nice, like since I only buy such a cheap bag I'm not worth the conversation nor a proper box), but telling her I want a box for storing the bag (I don't want it to get damaged when I store it) she finally admitted that they do give boxes for Discos when the customer asks for it, but I can only get one in store in Warsaw or Krakow (which is like a 5 hour journey for me to both places - I didn't bother to go for the bag, I sure am not going just for the box!) and said she can't ship it to me, but I can talk to the customer service of their department store. So I've talked to the customer service and they've told me they can ship me the box with no problem. So the box arrived, but to my surprise it's the old brown box! It does look a bit bizarre to me, now I wish I had the old dustbag as well or at least the box to match the dustbag... And I remember when I was talking to Gucci she specifically told me they have new boxes now and new packaging only. I felt like they were trying to scam me in a way and it made me feel cheap. It's ok for storing the bag, but I'm worried it will look fake if I ever decide to sell it (not that I plan on selling the bag). Anyway, I'm a bit disappointed with Gucci's customer service, they've left a bad impression on me.

I wonder if anybody else experienced something like that? Is it just here or is it global? Was I being absurd to want a box for storing my bag?

I think Gucci are just getting hold of whatever they can ATM. I bought some brand new design 18ct and diamond jewellery just last week and it had to be put in an old-style brown ring box and covered in black gift paper and black ribbon (blk/wht bag). I asked my SA if they had a new-style box and she said they hadn't received them yet but assured me she'd keep one for me when they came in. My guess is they're catching up with themselves. Ditto a silver AM-era piece I bought in May.

Old rulz: Wallets and some SLGs cam in a brown box, bags never - except on-line purchases (so as an on-line purchase it should have come with a box - but it might well have been originally brown). Dusters were single brown bags unless the leather was polished or exotic in which case the inside of the brown was lined with white, wallets and SLGs had no bags only boxes, which wasn't good for me because I use a bag to keep exotics in, even in my bag so it doesn't rub. Shoes came in a box with only one dust bag.

New rulz: Pre-AM everything still goes by the old rules. Tian and Blooms packaging is complimentary to the themes' pieces. AM shoes from pre-resort '16 in a brown box, after, blk/wht with 2 dusters. Jewellery hasn't caught up yet - both silver and gold pieces don't have new packaging. Since I bought an old (Frida) bag in the Summer sale from the store I don't know about new bag packaging (so please let me know). Scarves and accessories have all come in a wht/blk box slightly thicker than the old, ties ditto. RTW have a white suit cover. Carriers are thick N-S with blk ribbon handles that can be carried over the shoulder (which is great)

Yeah, they've been doing it for a couple of years now but I wonder if it has somehow affected this new packaging.

I always thought anything white-white meant bleach, which meant not so environmentally friendly, but maybe they've found a way, I hope so.

I think many have a problem with the sewn-on Gucci label on the dust-bags and suit covers, they seem 'bought in' and somehow doesn't fell right but it's not a deal breaker for me (so long as the label doesn't stop me from being able to wash them).

Unbleached 'white' cotton is best for storage. If you lose any covers just use a cotton pillow case

BTW, the tie and the scarf boxes are amazingly thick and robust. Even if someone didn't want to keep their ties or scarves in them, they'd make a good box for storing something else.

Thank you, that was very helpful!

I agree with everyone about the new white bags looking cheap and outlet looking, I've still got lots of brown paperbags and boxes so I'm going to hang onto those. This new white one looks to basic, and not luxurious or special at all. When I saw it I had to take a second look, because I could believe it was Gucci. Not happy at all.

I really don't care about the boxes and bags as I throw them out anyway, but they do look terribly tacky and cheap IMO. What I absolutely cannot stand is the new dustbag. It's ugly and so cheap looking. Reminds me of Coach. I've actually purchased a few old brown style from resellers so I have them for future purchases. Also not liking the new pockets inside the Soho chain bag. Completely useless.

I didn't get a box when I bought my soho disco, it being my first luxury purchase in store I didn't know they normally came with a box. Then when I watched some unboxing vids on YouTube I thought the SA had intentionally not given me one so hearing that they give them only when you ask is sort of a relief and a bummer.

Yes I've never received a box. Have purchased in person and on line. No boxes. Lv always gives boxes even on small purchases.
