New Coach Classics?

Oh, you're just a wee child! The Madisons weren't yet made when I started buying Coach, and by the time they were introduced, I was carrying a baby bag instead of a purse.

What I meant was that when you got interested in the Madison satchel, you could have gone to a thrift store or on ebay and found a vintage one instead of buying one new from Coach. I found a NYC Madison satchel in brand new condition at a thrift store for $23. (I also got a vintage Fendi for $5!) I saw some of those classics at the outlet and there is no comparison. I'm glad you love yours but if you ever get your hands on a vintage one, you'll see what I mean. If Coach had kept the quality up, I bet the classics would have sold much better.

LOL well, i have managed to pack a fair bit of life into it so far though... :graucho:

Our thrift stores here would be unlikely to have Coach of any era... I probably have a pretty good idea on the vintage pieces as i own bags made here of pretty top leathers... one that is nearly or maybe is 10yrs old..

I am satisfied with the remakes... and some of newer glove tanned products, my Peanuts wristlet is quite nice.. again i hope they continue with these sorts of things.

Thanks for sharing the news about the upcoming 75th anniversary bags! I'm so excited! I'm primarily a pre-owned vintage buyer (cough ADDICT cough), but I have the reissue Field Bag and Stewardess, both in BT.

The Field Bag is a-ma-zing and absolutely one of my favorites. My husband gave it to me as a surprise and I cried tears of joy - that good. The Stewardess is nice - I know some people didn't care for them, but I like mine. I wouldn't have purchased it, except I had some gift cards that could only be used on the FP site, and I figured it would be a good chance to fill a hole in my collection. My other Stewardess is a black made in NYC, and I wanted a BT. The Field Bag is heavier and more burnished leather, and is almost the same color as my cognac Legacy Duffle and Rory. The Stewardess is more of the BT that I remember from the late 80's. I like carrying it, and I keep LeatherCPR'ing it to get the color to burnish.

One of the great things about Coach - there's something for everyone!

The 9927 Willis has been on my bucket list for a long time. I forgot about it until a week or two ago when I saw a lady carrying a vintage one.....I just had to ask her about it and she was more than happy to talk about it......she even told me to "try it on" ha ha....it was so beautiful.....Anyways, Coach Factory sent me an email a few days later and on the email was the Willis!! I was SOOOO excited and was able to buy one from factory at $135!!!! The excitement ended once I opened the package yesterday. The leather is totally lackluster. The thin-ness doesn't bother me as much as the look and feel of the leather. It reminds me of Pleather. Isn't Pleather supposed to imitate leather?? When did it become ok for leather to imitate Pleather???? The post for the turnlock isn't even centered so when I close the bag it goes wonky on me.....this one is not a keeper for me :(

That's to bad because my Madison remake is very nice, good leather and soft.. it's breaking in well for me too.

I'm excited for the classics redo. I picked up two of the classics (a basic and a city) in the last outlet online sale since I'd been curious about them for a while. I was expecting the worst but was pleasantly surprised, although the leather of course isn't as nice as my made in NYC stewardess. Not sure if I'll keep them. If they make new versions with leather like the older ones, I can see myself picking up a few things.

I've been out of the handbag loop for alittle while now....I didn't even know they were re-doing the Madisons. I would love to see them!! Madison was (and still is) my favorite line. I'm hoping that I just got a dud on my Willis and I will be calling Coach later to see about a replacement because the lock just isn't acceptable. I remember the vintage having a beautiful sheen to it and this one is very dull looking even after a good coat of moisturizer. Maybe with a new one the leather will be better too!

Mines from a few year ago. Classic Madison satchel, all glove tanned, raw lined. Seems they are hitting it out of the park with the new Ace satchel so perhaps these anniversary bags will be something worthwhile, i hope so.

If you can find one made in the 90s or early 2000s in the US, Costa Rica or Turkey, it will be superior to anything Coach makes today. I've seen some of those classics at the outlet and the leather was horrible, particularly in black. It made me wonder if they use the worst leather on black bags since the dye hides flaws easier.

Thank you! That info is VERY helpful....I got the british tan but was wondering if black would've been a better choice.....I guess not!!

Since the origin date of the company is 1941, the 75th anniversary would be 2016 at some point. Not sure if it would be a Spring or Fall collection though...
