There's going to be monogramming options, and on some styles you can even customize the storypatch with a message! I know one of the styles comes with two random charms...and I say "random" because you can order 2 of the same exact style, but the bags can come with 2 different charms. Two of the charms I've seen are a dinosaur and a feather.

sounds very interesting!

i've been hearing rumors that folks are stockpiling the classic NYC bags; when the 75th anniversary hits, with an emphasis on the 'original classic styles, those bags will be worth a pretty penny indeed!!! will be interesting to see how that plays out. maybe Coach will have an archive store like what Ghurka does, where you can buy an original NYC stewardess for $795!!

I don't think this will happen. There have always been vintage collectors but currently vintage isn't selling as well as it was a year ago. I'm still finding bargains. Even when vintage was selling really well, the prices were still less than the price for Coach classics. Only a few of the Coach classic styles were around when Coach made bags in NYC. The vintage that gets the best prices are the Bonnie Cashin or NYC styles they don't make anymore. Usually the rarer the better.

Unless they do something spectacular to make these classics really special, I'll pass. The vintage leather is better. I have a 2013 archival Rambler and a 1999 Rambler's Legacy. While I like all the pockets on the archival, the leather on the original is much, much nicer.

They been remaking the classics all along (the current duffles, for example) so I wonder what will make this anniversary collection stand out.

true enough. but i think folks are realizing that the 'reissued' classics dont hold a candle to the originals. so if coach is smart, they will open a store connected to the archives, and sell vintage authentic NYC bags as part of the 75th celebration, in the way that Ghurka now does. it would be enhance the value of NYC bags on ebay as well. [with Ghurka, sellers point to the style on the Ghurka archive seller page, and use that to price their ebay bags] well let's see how they play it out.

I think that most of the people who have been buying the reissued classics resist the idea of carrying a used bag. If they had no problem with buying used bags, they could have already gotten the same style made with better leather for a fraction of the price.

The Coach archivist believes in preserving bags as they are found. He doesn't do any rehab on them. If Coach did want to sell vintage, they would have to start acquiring them now. I wonder if they could sell bags that haven't been cleaned. It seems like there would be legal issues. They wouldn't be able to assure that the bag didn't come into contact with pet hair or other allergens. How does Ghurka deal with this?

interesting question. i know that the archivist doesnt do rehab on bags for the archives [one of my bags is in there actually!!!]. but maybe they would allow rehab of bags for sale in an "archive store" though -- cleaned and conditioned sort of thing.

i'll have to check the ghurka site again; i can't remember if they clean and condition the original vintage bags that they sell. interesting to ponder. at the prices they charge, they'd better be cleaned up!!!

"Welcome to Our Vintage Collection.
We are pleased to offer a selection of vintage handbags, briefcases and luggage from our archives."

that's all they say, nothing about cleaning/rehab

I know there are many sites that sell vintage Chanel, etc. I think those are probably given spa treatment. It's easier to eat the cost for a bag that you are selling for over $1000 than for cheaper bags.

If they want someone to rehab Coach, I'll do it for a small fee!:graucho:

I KNEW it!!! I knew they'd do something for the 75th anniversary. I have been holding out on a Stewardess and now I am going to definitely get one once these arrive. I am so excited!

you should send your resume to 34th street archives! i'm sure they're lining up rehabbers, cleaners, anybody who wants to get their hands dirty on vintage bags!!!

Uh-oh, not the random thing again. And a double-whammy with making one a feather! I remember reading all the (totally justified) anger on the feather fob thread. Coach loves drama, don't they? :p

Actually no, when my Madison satchel was made originally iirc '89? i was a kid i wouldn't have been interested in a Coach purse at all...

Plus i grabbed mine at the factory store for barely more than most Guess bags, i appreciate the simplicity and quality leather, is it as good as the original? probably not but compared to most made today the leather is much better.... thankfully they are reintroducing their glove tanned products because it is a better Representative of the Coach brand than that cross grain leather is.

Oh, you're just a wee child! The Madisons weren't yet made when I started buying Coach, and by the time they were introduced, I was carrying a baby bag instead of a purse.

What I meant was that when you got interested in the Madison satchel, you could have gone to a thrift store or on ebay and found a vintage one instead of buying one new from Coach. I found a NYC Madison satchel in brand new condition at a thrift store for $23. (I also got a vintage Fendi for $5!) I saw some of those classics at the outlet and there is no comparison. I'm glad you love yours but if you ever get your hands on a vintage one, you'll see what I mean. If Coach had kept the quality up, I bet the classics would have sold much better.
