A few years ago, I got & returned the new lightweight version of the Stewardess bag. In the recent PCE, I finally ordered a "Classic" Stewardess style #9525. It was my understanding this was supposed to be the thick old-fashioned glove tanned leather of the 70s/80s Coach bags.

Well, it feels pretty flimsy to me.

Are they redesigning the ones that are supposed to be made in the old style?

Someone else recently posted about a Stewardess disappointment, but they were able to exchange it. I got the impression they were sent the *new* version by mistake.

Mine is a 9525, so... am I expecting too much & being picky, or have they dumbed-down the classics too???

I don't think you are being picky. The quality of the leather Coach is now using for classics is not as nice as it used to be, especially in black. I saw some at the outlet that looked horrible. I think you'd be better off buying an older one secondhand.

This may or may not be relevant, but I noticed most of the Coach Classics are on sale in the SAS starting today.

I too would be interested in a new classic made with the thick leather they used to use.

I saw that! Just after I used a 25% PCE, now it's 30% off. But I suspect I'll be returning it anyway. It does not look/feel like the old thick leather to me. It feels close to the revamped version of the classic duffle I have with the newer lighter leather. I wasn't *thrilled* with it, but I kept that one because I always wanted that bag.

When I saw the classics on the SAS the thought that occurred to me was that SV didn't like them and they were being deleted. But I have no idea really. Maybe someone else will know if they are putting out new, better quality versions of the Classics.

I just ordered the Coach Classic City Bag today in British Tan. I did notice some reviewers saying that the leather was flimsier than the previous version, so I'm keep my expectations low...

I believe the City was one of the *new* classics in the light weight (flimsy) leather. Stewardess had 2 versions for a while, the flimsy new one at $358, and what was supposed to be the original glove-tanned at $298. But it sure doesn't feel like it to me.

Alas. I always wanted one of these when I was a teen in the 80's.

I had read comments about the newer versions having thinner leather but had not seen comparison pics. I don't have any of the vintage bags, but 4 of the reissue duffles. The British Tan and Olive Moss have very thin leather and completely crumple. The Navy and Mahogany seem to have thicker leather, they are a bit stiffer and more or less stand up even without stuffing. I have used the Navy a lot; the Mahogany still is patiently waiting for me to cut the tags.

Ah, thanks for clarifying! I did not know that about the City and the Stewardess. :)

Thanks for this information, everyone, because I wanted to buy one of these classics. I gave away my old stewardess bags about 15 years ago to some nieces and really miss them. I don't know that I want to spend a lot of money on thinner leather. Time to check ebay, I guess.

I was lucky enough to receive an original british tan stewardess last year on Mother's Day. I wonder if they use newer thinner leather because people prefer a lightweight bag?
I don't know, all I know is that I prefer the older bags with the gorgeous thick leather and obviously I'm not alone.

I just bought a gorgeous vintage Trail bag today on eBay, can't wait to get it because I need a smaller size bag. I had one before that I purchased vintage and sold it......foolish me! Can't wait to get this one, nothing beats the older bags in my mind!

My Coach Classic City Bag arrived today. I took one look at it and put it right back into the box for return. The leather was totally wrinkled along the bottom front and back! It looked terrible! :(
