Michael Kors New Article - Kind of sad: "It's Official - Michael Kors Isn't Cool Anymore"

I predicted this awhile ago, after I saw them following in Coach's footsteps with their outlets and MMK market level.
I didn't think it would happen so soon however. I thought they would trend at least another two years. Funny the article didn't state any brand that is surpassing them yet. I have a feeling this is only happening among the elite, such as movie stars, etc. I am pretty sure the general public is still buying Michael Kors as a favorite.

+1. Us girls spend enough money with them!

I think MK is perceived a bit differently in the UK compared to the US. The MK boutiques and the dept stores that sell MK here are all pretty upmarket and there aren't that many of them.

Conversely, a quality English brand Radley which is sold in most dept stores, seems to have had a dip in popularity compared to a few years ago.

Its a shame because they produce beautiful leather bags which last forever....!

I don't agree with the article's statement that it's like Coach. I think Coach's siggy bags were a trend, but not the regular leather ones. I had a feeling MK would end up like this. Glad I got my bags while I worked at a department store and could get them for less.

Mk is not like coach, just like coach is not like dooney&bourke. I'm not crazy about the plate on outlet bags so I always buy from MK or department stores. Every brand has a rollercoaster year. I love my MK just like I love my LV, Fendi and Gucci. I couldn't care less if the powers that be think MK is not cool. The quality is there not to mention excellent price point. You do not have to buy a miranda bag to have a little MK in your life. I love the selma and hamilton. Coach's downfall are all of those "micro" bags at 400.00+ bucks and weird designs. Dooney stopped making florentine satchels so I moved back to MK and Gucci. When Coach and Dooney go back to producing great leather bags I will come back. I always do.

I don't care. I'll still buy them as long as they continue to be well made quality bags. I stopped buying Coach because of all the over priced mini bags. Just not for me. I still buy Fendi although I don't like a lot of the designs that are being offered like the monster bags. If a bag is well made & of leather, I'll buy it, cool or not.

this 👍

Over saturation i suppose, that said i think it will rebound just perhaps not to the extent that it was before, but just like the other contemporary brands i think they will find a place after the dust settles.

I do wonder to who is rising above them? seems no mention of this?

Coach has already closed 70 stores in the United States alone, so what they said in the article, is true about Coach. Coach took a bad nosedive to Michael Kors and Kate Spade. Here is an article about that.

It's just journalism. Dropping shares and oversaturation will not change the way I shop. Plus, the outlet styles are not the same as the one at department stores. No one goes to the outlet to get the other products MK produces. I just went to the outlet store today and they had leather hamiltons (with the square plate) and other things for $350+ so it's not 1/2 off the department store prices, and they are different styles. I do agree that it's a brand that's everywhere, but just because it happened to Juicy Couture and Coach or whatever doesn't mean it will happen to MK. Louis Vuitton is also everywhere but that's another story.

All designers go through spells. It is only normal. After further research, I think your article is full of beans. They never state who is on top right now? Every indication reveals that Michael Kors is still on top. I think someone is coming here pulling on our chains! lol!

This article doesn't even MENTION Louis Vuitton and shows that MK is still quite cool actually.
