I'm sorry to hear about your experience :( I have had issues with them too and I believe that it really depends on where you are - maybe you can use your GC to cross a name off your Xmas list :)
 
Haven't had any issues online because I don't like to wait for shipping but I've had problems in stores with their SAs.

Most recent, yesterday, I stopped by after work because I really needed a brow pencil. I walked around looking for it for a while and I couldn't find it so I went looking for an SA. I find them all standing together, trying the products out on themselves and each other. Waited to see how long it takes them to notice me. Finally one looks over in the middle of trying to figure out her shade of foundation on her hand. Takes me over the the product area, asks what color I need and looks for it. Doesn't see it on the shelf and says I'm sorry we're out, walks away and goes back to the group. I had to look in the understock myself and lo and behold, there were several of the color I need there.
 
Yes, all stores are able to ban a customer that has excessive returns and/or excessive issues with their orders. It's a red flag to them and costs them a lot of money, so they'd rather the problematic customer not shop with them as they aren't making money off them, they're losing money.

OMG I have had the exact same experience at Sephora ...SA's just standing around. I once went in in hopes of buying a whole new face ( hahaha) from foundation, to lips, to eyes ...but the customer service was so horrible, I ended up buying one thing and even considered returning that, I was so mad!
