Neiman Marcus has the bags chained to the wall!

They wouldn't chain them up if they didn't have to. Too many of them are walking (or running) out the door. Once again thieves ruin the shopping experience for the rest of us.

LOL! Seriously?
For as long as I can remember, stores have wired their merchandise {leather coats, etc. . . } to prevent theft, LONG before NM was forced to do so. At least it's till out, some places put it in locked glass cases.
At NM you can still touch it and pick it up, it just doesn't give enough wire to let you try it on. There's no "chains".

In handbag boutiques they are behind glass and you have to ask to see them. My only complaint about the lock system in in Nordstrom's Rack it is really hard to get an SA to come and help you. I understand why they need to protect their bags. It's really easy to scratch leather when you are trying on a bag, and I imagine it's not too challenging for theives to dash out the door with a bag. I would rather buy a protected bag than one tossed about the store.

it's unsightly for sure but after our neiman's was robbed of a bunch of bags in broad daylight, it is necessary. not sure why they can't install a security tag system like they have for clothes.

I think security tags have become less effective as a deterrent. I hear the alarms going off all the time at my mall and no one seems the least bit concerned. Sometimes the tags malfunction and sound the alarm because the SA didn't scan them correctly. I don't know how the stores can protect their merchandise without it being off-putting to the shopper.

People dash and run with the Handbags. I've seen on TV shows where a band of thieves run and collect all the bags and dash. It happened at the Saks in San Antonio, TX. The cops couldn't get to them fast enough and they took a big haul of stuff out the door.

^that's what I was going to say.
The tag won't keep them from grabbing and running, but a wire tethering it down will.

^^I agree about the Rack and Off 5th, those places never have enough staff to adequately cover the customer's need anyways IMO.
