Well the winner of this round is ....

Tiffany

The Tiffany ring just has a little more zing to it. The 1895 setting is beautiful and I can appreciate the workmanship of both, but in the end the stone won out.

My sweetie had a great perspective on it. He compared it to BMW and Mercedes. Both are in a similar price range, but if you want a high performance vehicle you would go with the BMW and if you want a luxury feel you would go with the Mercedes. He said looking for more unique pieces of other jewelry he would go to Cartier, but we both agree that for this ring we like the Tiffany better.

Good choice! I love the Tiffany setting more than Cartier's...well, I have a Tiffany e-ring. My e-ring is 1.07 H and 3 ex and ppl thought my ring is in the DEF range!!! It's all about the cut and somehow Tiffany diamonds sparkle like crazy.

My ring is also H color (H, VVS1-2) and one of the most common compliments I get is how "white" my ring is. I really think that whatever Tiffany grades as an H may be a G elsewhere, since they are pretty stern on color grades. Add in the insane light return on a round brilliant cut and all three stones look crazy white.

For those that remember my original e-ring shopping posts, my future in-laws tried telling my now fiancee that we should just get a custom ring by their jeweler in Chicago's diamond district. We ended up purchasing a Tiffany & Co. ring and it sparkles SO MUCH that even my in-laws admit that it's sparklier than any ring they've seen (my guess is that it is not just the cut but the settings really have light return down to a complete science). His mother has even said, "I always thought it was the fancy lights they have in the store, but now I tell that it's the Tiffany cut!"

so if im reading the original post correct, for basically the same size/color/clarity stone, cartier is more expensive than tiffany? i didnt knew that, always thought they are about the same price if the same quality of stone, jsut that tiffany has more smaller stone...

It is very difficult to compare their prices. If the same size/color/clarity, the cuts may be different. The Cartier 2 carat D VVS1 4 prong solitaire that I viewed and tried on was MUCH less expensive than the Tiffany's equivalent. Perhaps, Cartier's was very good cut, Tiffany's, ideal cut. To produce an ideal cut, you need a larger row stone. So, it's more costly. Or, just because of the time gap when they purchsed the raw stones. I do not know...

Tiffany's 2 carat looked much bigger than Cartier's 2 carat. Probably because, the Tiffany setting is higher than the C's 4-prong setting. C's very good cut sparkled elegantly. T's ideal cut sparkled like crazy!!!

Yea...when we were at Tiffany to buy our e-ring, the SA showed my mom a 2 carat e-ring and the price tag was a HOLY $85000. That diamond for sure sparkles like there is no tomorrow...

YAYAYAY!! I was just reading the whole post hoping you'd say Tiffany's! I've never seen the Cartier before IRL but I have the Tiffany's one and you won't be sorry, it's sooo pretty! And it totally catches the light and SPARKLES like crazy!! The cut is so important. I'm still confused as to whether you bought the "mercedes" or "BMW" of rings (LOL!) but I think you made a great choice!!

It's true! I'm sorry but Tiffany's cut is EXCEPTIONAL... it's just so beautiful! The fire that comes off of them is insane. And if you read the Tiffany's literature, they ARE very strict with colours - if it's close to the colour grade below they ALWAYS downgrade it so your "H" will be a very white H - it could very well be an appraiser's "G" and so forth.
