Necklace doesn't suit me - advice

This has caused me to think about the pieces I have purchased. I am self diagnosed OCD. I keep my things pristine. I am truly a little nutty in that regard. When I have purchased a Chanel handbag, I have always requested (and received) a fresh, new bag. I have always insisted. It has never ocurred to me to request the same with jewelry. I have only a total of five pieces of VCA. I am now wondering if in the future I should ask for a “fresh” piece. Just something Inhad never thought of until reading this thread.

With the way inventory is these last few years, you are lucky to get the desired piece in stock at all. Having a choice of one that’s “fresh from the back” is unlikely.

I would at least try to get an exchange if you are truly unhappy with the necklace.

I would clean the necklace well and come in to the boutique with receipt. point out the conflicting info you received, which imo would make the issue of wearing it out of the store essentially a moot point as your decision was likely influenced by the misinformation.

@oxfordgem I hope that this experience does not put you off VCA if the brand aesthetics fits with your personal style.

When I placed an order for Guilloche YG earrings, I was also informed by my SA that there are going to be no returns or exchanges since the order is being placed for me. I don't think it's that unusual. The idea behind placing an order rather than picking up a product readily available in the store, is that it has come specifically for you and in those cases the assumption is that you really wanted the item enough to want to order it without even having tried on.

My suggestion would be that you contact your SA and request a credit note. I don't think getting in touch with customer service will help as the online boutique and store boutiques for VCA are seperate entities that operate differently. Even their stocks are different! So is there exchange and refund policy.
Do you mind sharing how long ago this happened?
This is why I strongly hesitate to place an order without being able to see or try on the item in store, but it seems like this is the norm now a days. I just don’t see how an exchange wouldn’t be possible as I’m sure there would be no problem selling the creation. A few months ago I made an online purchase that I ended up returning in store and my SA told me that item would likely sell within the next day.

I recently placed an order for an item I hadn’t seen, but it was refundable. Honestly, I think this is a decision made by a SA rather than an official VCA policy. I find it unacceptable to offer a customer a final sale option for something they haven’t had the opportunity to view beforehand.

It feels like the SA might be taking advantage of someone who is more timid or less experienced with purchasing from VCA or other luxury brands.

But why is wearing it out of store not acceptable to return, but a piece of jewelry sent to one's home to try on is ok to return?
The difference to me is the controlled home environment. My SA has let me try things at home. I do that in a very controlled and careful way, do not wash my hands with a ring on or put on earrings over a hard surface. I do not get sweaty or use hair products or steam milk for a coffee or wear it while on the toilet or really do anything besides carefully put on the piece I am trying and look in different lights. I don’t go for a walk, I don’t try it out in my car. You get the idea I think. I am equally careful or even more so than when trying in the store and do not treat the item as like it is already mine.

When I wear something out of the store, I treat it like it is mine. I am not rough and don’t want to scratch, but it is just different. I wear it into the bathroom to use the toilet, I take different risks about putting it on and off in a car or even on the subway, and so on Those who say they inspect the pieces of course are right, but it is not the same to me, even if it seems psychological.

I appreciate you taking the time to explain; it definitely makes sense if people are so careful about trying on the pieces at home.
