I’m from NJ and grew up in the 1980’s/1990’s around other girls that would wear their name in gold, sometimes also with diamonds and it was just a thing that seemed to be the norm.
I never got one; at the time, I was more into silver and the closest I got to a nameplate style was a Metallica necklace. I posted a photo here of the exact one I used to have haha! And I have also added a photo of a nameplate I wear now from Iz and Co in gold and black diamonds.
I have been feeling nostalgic and I am considering getting one now since I missed out on the rite of passage that my friends went through. However, a few years ago my mother gifted me this necklace which is my first initial in rose gold and diamonds which I wear a lot. IMG_5396.jpeg
I am considering one in rose gold, not sure if I want diamonds or not.
I would love to see your nameplate necklaces, I would completely understand if you didn’t want to reveal your name on here so whomever is comfortable sharing, it would be greatly appreciated! 02A17D46-2862-4941-8670-405DA69658F72018-08-21_13-54-26_235.jpegE95882D0-ED1D-4986-875B-F74F839B578C_Original.jpeg

I wear a silver one with my initials on it, really quite short and layered with some other ones from time to time. It's just a plate with 3 letters engraved over to the one side, not in the centre

In Hawaii we have Hawaiian Heirloom jewelry that has our names on rings, bracelets, and pendants. I have a pendant with my name on it that I wear every so often. Has my entire first name in black enamel on a gold horizontal pendant with carved designs on top. If you google Hawaiian jewelry youʻll see it.

Yes, growing up in the 80’s, I loved my name plate. It had diamonds and rubies. I gave it to my daughter who lost it!
For my birthday, my daughter purchased me one in gold. It’s so retro and simple. I love it.
I am seriously thinking of getting one. I think just the gold might work best. But the diamond ones are so sparkly! Lol
Glad you got a new one!

I am usually a classic girl when it comes to jewelry. Think Cartier and tennis bracelet. I would love a nameplate necklace. The inspiration comes from Carrie Bradshaw's nameplate necklace. I feel it can still be timeless with some flair and have sentimental meaning. I am not so sure whether I want it to be diamond studded though.
That’s interesting, I never knew she had a nameplate. When I think of nameplates, I think of more urban origins. I’m from LA and nameplates and bamboo earrings were a hip hop staple in the 80’s and 90’s amongst the black and Latino communities. I think it was popular on the east coast as well amongst the same communities.
