My ultimate LV Nightmare...

I can totally relate to that! When I bought my Cherry pouchette at the Toronto LV, my Diner/Master was declined, and it didn't occur to me that it was blocked because I had forgotten to tell the CC company I was traveling. Then I pulled out another CC, and that one was declined too!!! How embarrassing! The LV rep was very nice though, and he was the one who suggested perhaps I should call the CC companies. He even dialed the number for me - as I was being connected it dawned on me that I had forgotten to call the CC companies.

I have to say, as embarrassing as that exp. was, I'd rather them do the job they are supposed to do. They quickly fixed the problem for me, and we ran the transaction through a minute later.

I now have an item on my 'travel checklist' to call the CC companies, and our bank - they won't let you use the ATM card either, wouldn't want to be stranded overseas with no cash, no working CCs!!!

That's why I always call my CC company when I plan on spending money out of my hometown. I even call them before I make a large purchase.

I had that happen once when I was visiting my dad, and I stood in the store and called my CC company. After giving them my mothers maiden name, my address, my social security number, my home and work phone, the only thing that convinced them that I was who I was saying who I was is the fact that I finally said "I have a $0 balance right now and if you don't clear this card right now I am closing this account." well the fact that I knew my balance is what convinced them! WHAT CRAP!

So now I always call and I tell them if I am declined and embarassed because of this I will close the account.

I Had It Happen To Me In Stride Ride (Of All Places)...Nice! LOL...We Had Just Moved (Well Within 6 Mo.).....You Know How It Is When You Buy A New House ~ You're Constantly Buying All The Things You Need. I Called The Bank From There...& I Was Fine (My Son Was Teething & Tired...So It Wasn't The Best Time For It To Happen!).

Im so sorry that happened to you. ITs a disgrace, but they are trying to prevent crime. I always make sure I jave enough left on my card and tell them before I purchase anything big. Its mortifying though! :-)

Happened to me too but not instore, I was trying to buy online. Both my Visa debit and Visa CC were denied. The bad part was my bank couldnt figure out how to lift the block on the debit card - they told me the system deemed it a fraudulant activity and that they couldn't get it to recognize it as a valid transaction :push:

yea when i worked in hollywood, a lot of cards from customers (from europe/asia/etc) didn't work because of the block. i learned that before you travel outside the country, or outside your general area, to call the cc company and let them know where you'll be and what you'll be doing (spending wise) ahead of time so they can ok it.

my bank put a block on my debit card AFTER i purchased my chanel bag. lol. i had to call them to unlock it. they wanted to make sure i was the one who authorized the huge chunk of funds to chanel. had to explain it was for a wedding blah blah blah. "YES, I LOVE CHANEL."

Thanks, ladies.

I guess I was just especially ticked off, as in the UK, there is a big thing here for new "chip and pin" cards, ie, you are no longer allowed to sign for purchases, for security, you have to input your pin code.

The whole point of the pin is that it's supposed to be more secure, ergo, it asked me for the pin, which I input correctly, therefore by the bank's own rules, it should have shown that the transaction was genuine. Aswell as the fact that the airline tickets, and hotel had been purchased on the same card, and, I had purchases at LV in Dublin a month or so before...

I've never had the problem happen before, and I travel at least a few times a year. I guess from now on, I'll be giving them a ring before I go..

Thanks again for all the kind words.

Ugh, I hate when that happens. Usually when I go out of the country I call my CC companies first to let them know and they make a note of it. I have a lot of problems with my card being declined online; I think they\'re more paranoid about online fraud than real-life. :/ I spoke to them on the phone once.. they said that some companies (like eLux or Coach.com) charge $1 to your credit card instantly when you order, just to make sure that it works. Then they charge the whole amount to your card when your stuff ships out, and either take off a dollar for what they already charged or refund that to your account. Too complicated for me. :P I had my card number stolen a month or so ago.. the CC company called me to tell me it was one of a couple that had been stolen (didn\'t say how or by who) and that they were going to issue me a new one. At least they look out for their customers. :)
