line a glass bowl with alfoil on the shimy side up, add bicarc of soda and hot water (which will bubble) and drop the silver into it for a couple of minutes. The fizz lifts off the tarnish. Rinse it in purified water and dry it with a jewellery cloth or chamois. I used to work in a high-end jewellery store while I was at Uni, and that was all we used

^^^ This is true.

I have done this as well and it makes silver look new again. I heated the water in the microwave, however slightly boiling the water worked wonders too along with the Baking Soda (sodium bicarbonate).

only get it cleaned at Tiff's- they do an awesome steam cleaning!!.. yes they charge from $6-$12 depending on item..engagement rings get cleaned free for life! I've had some really old pieces that look brand new still...

I work for a jewelers called Azendi here in the UK; silver jewelry will always tarnish when being worn, perfume & lotions will speed up the process (I tend to buy rhodium finished pieces so I don't have to clean them!) Most jewelers offer a cleaning service, we do it for free with cloth in store or a dip-dye for heavily tarnished pieces (as long as there are no stones) it always helps to just ask!
