My RM got compared to a Kathy Van Zeeland!

I have seen her on QVC also. Her designs are strange and she seems to have little emotion.

LOL! Yeah KVZ is way over the top for my taste. Like guess on crack, but I like her bag charms... just not on her bags!

RM is like on the other end of the spectrum when compared to KVZ.

I didn't think much of this thread when I read it awhile back but last week I took my Mini Nikki in Nickel to work and some girl went nuts "OMG OMG, You have a Kathy Van Zeeland Bag. I just saw this at the Mall yesterday. Aren't they so great?" She was just Gaga over it. Then I told her No, It's a Rebecca Minkoff to which she replied "Who? Ohhhh" obviously disappointed...LOL I think RM is going to have to do QVC to hit small town America...LMAO

I am also not familiar with RM bags, just KVZ bags, so I would have made the same mistake as the grandmother. She meant no harm. She was trying to be nice to you and to find something the two of you might have in common.

Now, I love Kathy's bag. But I like lots of bling and hardware, so that's why her bags appeal to me. I will agree her style is not for everybody. I will look up RM's bags, because I'm always open to new designers and purse styles.

KVZ's husband is B. Makowsky (probably spelled wrong) and I know he makes a bag that resembles the Nikki.

I have to say I agree, they are kind of gaudy. I think KVZ bags look like they have a big flashy hood ornament on them.

Oh yes - last year I was out shopping, thought I spotted a Nikki (mind you, I had never seen one IRL before at the time), and I was like, "OMG I love your bag!" and the lady was like, "Oh yeah it's B. Makowsky" and I tried hard to maintain my composure while starting at a blanant copycat...

It's hard to show respect to "designers" who steals designs (KVZ knocks off Hayden-Harnett all the time, run a search).

All that aside - in the OPs case - they meant it at as a compliment, and you should still take it as such, and an Ocean Nikki - we know it's gorgeous! I'm always glad to hear someone ask me about something, even if they don't like it (my friends are honest enough to tell me, and what matters is if I like it!).

i found this thread kind of amusing b/c my friend, "A" who has a ton of bags (a very good mix of both high and low end i think) teased me in front of our mutual friend for buying "a "$300 bag!" (it was a mam btw).....and "A" totally owns a kvz bag.

yesterday i was babysitting and i brought my ocean nikki with me. the grandmother(young) came home and said "wow, that is a nice purse. it looks like a kathy van zeeland but those are expensive aren't they?"....if only she knew lol. but i was kinda offended, but i guess she didn't know better? plus i guess it is very snobby to be offended by it...i just find kathy to be a bit tacky? i think my nikki is the opposite of tacky, i find it classic and timeless. but the grandmother's daughter is my age and obsessed with KVZ, so maybe she was just trying to relate to me??

I'm sorry--her purses are fine, but they are not FINE like RM's.

I haven't seen anything from KVZ that looks like a Nikki. At least this woman thought it was expensive, though.

Maybe she needs glasses. You can be young and need glasses.

To me, RM just looks like quality, even a mile off.

I understand, I would be offended too but like you I wouldnt disclose anything because it might sound obnoxious and arrogant. An excoworker asked me to go help her get a new bag, which got me excited because she loves my bags. Then she told me she wanted a kvz, and I didnt have the hearts to tell her that I think its a bit tacky since that is her taste, I didnt think it was right of me to give such strong opinions. I figure just because I dont like it doesnt mean other people dont either.

So I had to check out what these KVZ bags looked like after reading this thread and ITA with everyone -- the bags are much blingier than RM bags. Also (this is sort of OT) but I found this clutch by KVZ that looks just like the HH mercer clutch to me, no????

I hate KVZ....she always copies Hayden Harnett. There is also a Lorca & a Havana hobo knockoff.

This is a funny thread. My mom carries all kinds of bags that are definitely not my taste (from Juicy Couture, Jessica Simpson to KVZ), so I am familiar with this brand.
I have no idea how someone could compare to RM, but oh well.
A couple months ago I wore my noir Nikki to work and a co-worker said "I have that exact same bag but in brown!" and she told me she would bring it the following day to work. She did, and it was an obvious rip-off of a Mini Nikki, down to the side straps, had the "pyramid" style HW like the resort bags, same bottom with the double straps & HW, same shoulder strap, and it was from a designer called B. Makowsky. Honestly I couldn't believe the similarities. She said she bought it for $70-ish at TJMaxx (or Marshall's; can't remember) and where did I get mine and how much was it???
Oh, I was a teeeny bit embarassed, but I just said I got it online and didn't tell her the cost.

I have to say I did buy a B Markowsky from TJ maxx because it looks just like a nikki, but for 59.99.(I can use it when it's raining and give my RM a rest)
But I can not stand KVZ, (sorry if this offends)
But they look like grandma bags with all the crap dangling off. And you can spot one right away.

So many people don't even know who RM is and are still shopping at purse parties for knock offs. If I see another fake Coach, Prada or Kate Spade ILL PUKE

I actually thought my co-worker's BM "Nikki" was very nice, the leather was very soft, and obviously I like the design. The quality is great for a real-leather bag like that for $60 or $70. Problem to me is: It is nearly IDENTICAL to the Nikki! How can a designer honestly do that and call it their own? I know it is done all the time, but really....
