yesterday i was babysitting and i brought my ocean nikki with me. the grandmother(young) came home and said "wow, that is a nice purse. it looks like a kathy van zeeland but those are expensive aren't they?"....if only she knew lol. but i was kinda offended, but i guess she didn't know better? plus i guess it is very snobby to be offended by it...i just find kathy to be a bit tacky? i think my nikki is the opposite of tacky, i find it classic and timeless. but the grandmother's daughter is my age and obsessed with KVZ, so maybe she was just trying to relate to me??

There is absolutely no comparison between RM and any KVZ I have ever seen...Yikes, maybe she needs to get her eyes checked!

she probably just didn't know any better. KVZ might be the only designer name she's heard, so she threw it out there. I wouldn't be offended... at least she complimented it!!

I agree .. I think it's kind of cute though how she wanted to relate.

IMO but I bet you're right, she was just trying to relate and she probably thinks kvz makes some nice stuff so you should definitely take it as a compliment. kvz could never make anything as nice as the nikki imo.

hahaha i really don't like KVZ. i think RMs and KVZ bags differ in that RM mainly uses color to make her bags pop, while maintaining classic bag styles, like a satchel or hobo shape. IMO, i think that is better because it'll appeal to more customers than KVZ, with her prolific usage of hardware and other miscellaneous "bling" to make her bags pop, which can turn a lot of people off.
I don't think you should feel guilty. I would've also automatically been offended because I find KVZ bags to be very gaudy. I also find the quality to be nowhere near that of RM. But with that being said it would've been a knee-jerk reaction. Once I thought about it I would've come to the same conclusion as you .... that she was just trying to relate and that was the only name she knew. No harm, no foul. Don't beat yourself up about it.

ITA^^ It was nice that she was trying to be sweet and I'm guessing she may not have been familiar with other brands.
I didn't think much of this thread when I read it awhile back but last week I took my Mini Nikki in Nickel to work and some girl went nuts "OMG OMG, You have a Kathy Van Zeeland Bag. I just saw this at the Mall yesterday. Aren't they so great?" She was just Gaga over it. Then I told her No, It's a Rebecca Minkoff to which she replied "Who? Ohhhh" obviously disappointed...LOL I think RM is going to have to do QVC to hit small town America...LMAO
