My rather disappointed experience in Venice

It seems to me corporate cannot be unaware of these shady tactics, JMHO. They now need to get rid of winter stock at all costs, and if it means a bag hostage situation, so be it.

It will be interesting to see if corporate offers the bag to you for purchase. They should.

Hi OP. I'm just wondering if you made it clear to the manager that he spoke to you and you are the "bolide lady"? I had a similar experience (not Hermes) and they were apologetic afterwards. Italians from italy tend to talk over you in that passionate way, and I don't mean this in a bad way.

i am glad you did not give in. the Venice boutique generally does offer other coveted bags (bolide, toolbox, jige, lindy) to walk ins without any prior purchase history so i am very surprised. i hope you enjoy your vacation. try the other italian boutiques if you can! good luck.

Thanks all for your support.

I didn't argue with him because I see no need to argue with him. It is not my way of dealing with people. If someone is nasty to me, I do not need to act nasty to him in return. I still thanked him for his time and left the store with smile.

You know what u can do . Take the name of the manager and the SA, write a formal complaint letter or give a call to the head office in paris,I think u can find it on the website .. Even if they got to keep the jobs but at least they know it is so wrong to treat customers like that.

Agreed, i never experience this in the past, but my last trip in Paris, i was touted to buy more to get a B/K in rue serves. The approach was very banal, the saleguy put it bluntly that many customers work with him this way. All this said behind closed door of fitting room. I am sure he won't want to be caught on footage.

well I guess - there are more people wanting prestige leather items - than there are available. so Hermes will keep the most popular items for their regular customers who buy into the whole Hermes brand, nothing particularly shady about that...

I want to add one more point. I have been shopping with Hermes for several years and it is the first time I received treatment like this.

Can't believe that they will treat a long time H customer with this especially it is a Bolide, not a B or K. Many stores use B & K as a hook to getting other slow moving products. Bolide is readily available in a lot of stores. The worst thing is the game that they play about brand appreciation. That is all nonsense. My store now tries to get me to buy a set of gold cup and saucer before they have to close their year end books. I was hinted that my podium orders would be be taken more favorable if I help them out. Seriously, I'm paying to get the leather goods that I want. If they are concern about resellers, they can flood the market with the bags and no one can make any money out of it. It is a self fulfilling cycle where they create a shortage and then blame customers for being resellers if they don't buy goods that they don't like.

Then they should have made the policy quite clear to her when the S/A called. She had bought several items the day before. Why induce her to rush to the store with false promises only to hold the bag hostage to purchase of items she did not want. It seems some of the customers don't really buy into the whole Hermes brand, they are forced into it to get the bag they want.
